Words adapted by Len Graham from a poem "Shy Geordie" by the Scottish poet Helen Cruickshank (1886-1975) and set to music by Padragín Ní Uallacháin. Sung by her husband Len Graham on the album "Skylark" (Claddagh 4CC46). Len calls it Innisvaddy Annie.

According to another source, I have the title to be "Innishfaddie's Annie" by Len Graham from the same poem named earlier. This sourcealso credits Dundee born Jim Reid with the tune. I hope this may help.

Harold W; will you please quote your source? Mine is Len Graham's notes for 4CC46 published 1987 and the copyright of the songs and arrangements are claimed by Cranagh Music on that date.

Len Graham and Padraigín Ní Uallacháin have done very considerable work in returning songs to traditional circulation, often remaking them from fragments or incoherent versions. They have received far too little credit because people assume that their performances are reproductions of traditional songs. This is not so - each song is the subject of careful reconstruction.

Hi John, The version that Harold W mentions - although I'm sure he can speak for himself - is called 'Up the Noran Water' - words by Helen Cruickshank; music by Jim Read. It appears on the CD 'Sconeward' by James Malcolm (Greentrax CDTRAX 083) - here are the words which are only slightly different to those used by Len. It's a beautiful love song by both singers.

Annie's got a bairnie that hasna got a daddie.
Who the bairnie's father is the lassie winna say,
An nobody expected it with Annie's quiet ways.
