Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Mbo Date: 02 Feb 00 - 10:36 AM Yeah, Days Of The New is pretty cool "Shelf In The Room," "The Downtown," "Touch, Peel, And Stand" etc. But they're more of an acoustic grunge group--which jives too. I love when Pearl Jam gets acoustic--especially on their "clean" songs. "Elderly Woman" is a beautiful song. --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Gary T Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:42 AM I am under the impression the genre Heavy Metal took its name from Led Zeppelin and Iron Butterfly in the 60's (lead, iron--heavy metals). Can anyone confirm or discredit that notion? |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Blackcat2 Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:22 AM Metal unplugged? Well, most Metal roups have done it at least once and while several of the groups sound pretty good that way, it seems to me that it kind of looses the Metal feel. Nothing wrong with it, just that Metal is defined by lots of amps and at least a bit of distortion. That being said - I love early Sabbath (Ozzy)("War Pigs" is one of the best anti-war songs out there) and early AC/DC (Bon), Leppelin, & B.O.C. pax and bang yer head yall! |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Little Neophyte Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:13 AM I love my Dutch oven. It is cast iron, enamel baked. Holds 4 litres and is mighty heavy metal when full. I usually play Twisted Sister while cooking. Is that a heavy metal band? BB |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Wesley S Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:06 AM I sit at a computer and sell cast iron and bronze to manufacturers around the country along with Mexico and southeast Asia. So I love heavy metal because it provides me a paycheck every week. My other favorite metal group are the 6 strings on my Martins and the 8 strings on my mandolin. |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: sophocleese Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:06 AM Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Spinal Tap. Can't get much better than that. |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Terry Allan Hall Date: 02 Feb 00 - 08:50 AM Blue Oyster Cult ("Thinking Man's Metal") BTW, there IS an "unplugged" Metal band...called "Days of the New"...my oldest (and resident "Head Banger") says to check 'em out |

Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: WyoWoman Date: 02 Feb 00 - 12:59 AM How could one possibly have "Heavy Metal, unplugged" --wouldn't that be a musical contradiction? I mean, I'm willing to consider it, but ... I simply cannot imagine. WyoWoman |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Sorcha Date: 02 Feb 00 - 12:55 AM "Hey, YOU! Plug that back in!" spoken by the female in the band????? OOOps, been hanging out with spaw too long. |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: GUEST,Al Date: 02 Feb 00 - 12:52 AM Heavy Metal Unplugged - what a concept! "Hey! YOU! Plug that back in!" |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Mbo Date: 01 Feb 00 - 11:32 PM I like Metallica. They can get really cool sometimes. "Nothing Else Matters" sounds great acoustic, as does "Unforgiven Too." I also like Deep Purple---I love "Kentucky Woman." --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: alison Date: 01 Feb 00 - 11:26 PM Led Zepp, Black Sabbath, Tigers of Pan Tang (did a fantastic "love potion #9"), early Iron Maiden, slainte alison |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Mikal Date: 01 Feb 00 - 11:11 PM Well, there is KISS, with the song "Beth." The original debut was with strings and piano. Then there was Jethro Tull, but that may or may not be considered "Metal" by a lot of folks. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant did an unplugged, but that was more hype than accoustic... Oh, did I mention I also like Metal? Damn little I don't like...Perhaps Opera, but only those not in a language I speak... Mikal |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: GUEST Date: 01 Feb 00 - 10:15 PM I dont know if it would still be metal if it were acoustical or not. If it is played with a symphony is it still? For that you would have to ask Metalica who just put out their new album. Some metal is played real slow too and it is considered some of the hardest music. But all of these are still amplified. I think that it would be real cool if some new band came out and tried it unpluged. The closest thin that i can think of right now is Alice in Chains. I dont know if it is metal or not, probably not, but it is cool none the less. |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: paddymac Date: 01 Feb 00 - 10:08 PM One of my young ones plays HM, or at least that's what they called when they started out, but they and it seem to keep evolving beyond just loud. There seem to be several subsets of the genre now. I don't really think of it as my cup of tea, but I would be willing to try it if could be played acoustically. The heavy amplification is painful to my ears, distorts the sound, and obliterates nuances. To be honest, I don't really know if it's a musical thing or a generational thing, or some of both. If a metal band plays acoustically, is it still metal? (the music, not the band) |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: Bugsy Date: 01 Feb 00 - 09:58 PM Rather like Magnum meself, especially the unplugged album they did a couple of years ago. Cheers Bugsy |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: GUEST Date: 01 Feb 00 - 09:58 PM I like Zepplin, but i love Black Sabbath. Ozzy Rules!!! Acts of today that are real good are Pantera, Metalica, Slipknot just to name a few. |
Subject: RE: Does anyone here like Heavy Metal? From: MK Date: 01 Feb 00 - 09:54 PM None of the current metal acts do much for me. But I was a bigtime Zepplin fan, and LOVED Humble Pie. |
