Subject: Ann: Important concert in Cambridge, UK From: GeorgeH Date: 03 Feb 00 - 12:33 PM http://www.junction.co.uk/programme_folder/live_music.html Monday 21 February Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy,Boo Hewerdine, Eddie Reader & Friends in support of The Cambridge Two Campaign for the release of Ruth Wyner and John Brock £6 adv/£7 door For those outside the area, Ruth and John are two workers on a charity day shelter for the homeless in Cambridge who have been jailed for supposedly "allowing" the centre to be used for dealing in Heroin, after an undercover police surveilance operation. It is accepted that those dealing on the premises went to some lengths to prevent Ruth or John witnessing their activities; the crux of the prosecution case is that Ruth and John refused to pass on to the police their list of people they'd banned from the centre ON SUSPICION of dealing drugs. Exactly how this amounts to allowing the centre to be used for dealing is something only a British judge can answer . . So it's good music in a good cause! G. |

Subject: RE: Ann: Important concert in Cambridge, UK From: GUEST,Jimmy Connell, Bradford. Date: 03 Feb 00 - 02:21 PM I,m too far away to make it to the concert but would recomend to people near Cambridge to try to attend, the two workers got sentenced to 4 and 5 years in jail respectively, iroically they are (were) in the front line in trying to help people address their drug addictions to the benefit of everyone in society - a job not many people would want to take on. So I hope the concert is a great success - best wishes - Jimmy |
Subject: RE: Ann: Important concert in Cambridge, UK From: Grab Date: 04 Feb 00 - 08:44 AM Just been to the Fiddles On Fire gig at Cambridge Corn Exchange, and Eliza Carthy is definitely worth going to hear. Another good gig coming up is Bert Jansch at the Junction, sometime the end of March (26th, IIRC). Oh, and if you're in Cambridge, try the Unicorn in Cherry Hinton on the 2nd Wednesday of the month - it's open-mic amateur folk-night. Nice friendly group. |

Subject: RE: Ann: Important concert in Cambridge, UK From: Lady McMoo Date: 14 Feb 00 - 08:15 AM As I'm based in Belgium I can't attend but it sound like a very worthwhile event. Hope there's a great audience and something useful comes out of it to redress the apparent injustice of this case. All the best mcmoo |
