A GIRL I ONCE DID OWN

A girl I once did own has took her things and gone
Left me without word and without warning
And the vision that she drew is hidden from the view
Of her friends who ask me "When is she returning?"
Where she is, is where she's found, in some long deserted town
In the mountains where the trees are softly humming
She is gone, forever banned, under bridge's silent span
Where the river's strings can soothe her with their strumming.

If only I could touch and tell her of the time
And the hours I have spent in endless wonder
As the thoughts flow through my mind, its seldom I can find
A friend to break the spell that I am under
And I find myself possessed by an empty restlessness
And a voice I cannot touch, I cannot name
Keeps saying to my mind, "You're falling way behind
There's nothing here, there's nothing more to gain."

If only I could say to that girl who went away
There really is no need in my demanding
So just turn to your task, and all that I ask
Is to speak when we meet and meet me standing
And to live in our own time is to remain as we are
