Subject: The Keeper ? From: GUEST,Unicorn Date: 05 Feb 00 - 12:18 PM Not a 'Lighthouse Keeper' nor a 'Gamekeeper' but refers to the Human Race as the keeper of the animals on this earth. The chorus contains the words "... to keep and to protect, from the greatest of the big blue whales to the tiniest insect ..." - any ideas anyone? |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE KEEPER (Frank Hennessy) From: bill\sables Date: 05 Feb 00 - 07:45 PM THE KEEPER (Frank Hennessy) One morning when the world was new and first we saw the sun The Lord lay down to rest a while so pleased with what He'd done And of all the creatures He had made He loved man the best And so He placed into his hands the fate of all the rest CHORUS And all these things I give to you to keep and to protect From the greatest of the big sperm whales to the tiniest insect To rule with love and kindness the weak, the wild, the strong And treat My creatures gently only you know right from wrong
But man was so conceited he couldn't see the worth
After many years had passed the Lord came back to see
Where are all my animals the Hippo and the Whale

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: The Keeper (Frank Hennessy) From: Mick Tems Date: 08 Feb 07 - 04:56 PM Guess what, Frank? We're going to Ireland twice this year - once to The Gathering at Killarney and to Schull, West Cork, where Olly and I are Welsh dance team musicians. More power to Celtic Heartbeat's arm - BBC Wales tried to ruin it by bringing it forward to 7.30pm on Saturdays and chopping it to two-and-a-half hours, but you shone through! |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: The Keeper (Frank Hennessy) From: Chris in Portland Date: 08 Feb 07 - 06:02 PM Hi, Frank - enjoyed the show with Colum this week - my trio - Sweeter Times - was invited to do a St. Paddy gig and so, even though they are expecting the old standards, we'll give them the Galway Girl, Old Dungarven Oak and maybe even Uncle Mike -- great interview too with Sharon Shannon. I grew up in the next town over from John Prine outside Chicago - and here I am in Portland OR listening the story of him living in Ireland on your great show from Wales -- who'da thunk it? I also talked the trio into backing me up for the St. David's Day Dinner - celebrating the 100th year of the Portland Welsh Society! here's a review of Frank's Sain cd -- hennessy review Hwyl, Chris yn Portland And here's the Welsh version of Frank's song, as sung by Plethyn also on Sain - translation by Myrddin Ap Dafydd (C)Pan ddaeth hi'n fore'r (G)seithfed dydd, o'r(F)cread un ei (C)grud, Nid oedd ond harrwch ar (F)bob law - Gardd (C)Eden oed y (G)byd, A'r (F)ddaear oedd yn gytbwys, wedi'r (C)rhannu rhwng pob rhyw A dyn a ga'dd y (F)modd i fod yn (C)geidwad (G)pob beth (C)byw. Cytgan: (C)Mi roddwyd glendid ddaear lawr -- mewn ffydd i'n dwylo (G)ni, Pob creadur cryf a gwan -- a (C)blodyn arni hi, I'w (F)gwarchod gyda gofal, i (C)gadw'r byd yn ardd, Am mai nyni ga'dd (F)fodd i weld -- y (C)gwerth ym (G)mhob peth (C)hardd (C) Ond dyn a fu'n (G) drahaus erioed, ni (F) allodd fwy'n (C) gytun, A mynnodd fod y (F) ddaear oll -- yn eiddo (C) iddo'i (G) hun, Bu'n (F) hela er ei bleser -- a bu'n (C) lladd i foddio'i chwant; Diflannodd sawl (F) rhywogaeth - dim ond (C) llun a (G)wel ein (C) plant. (C) Ble'r aeth y (G) derw cedyrn fu'n -- (F) dal dwylo uwch y (C) ddol? Ac a ddaw llinyn (F) arian, rhai o'r nentydd (C) eto'n (G) ôl? Ni (F) wnaed gan unrhyw arddwr, (C) anialwch llwyr erioed; Ond 'does ond (F) llwch a llanast -- lle (C) rhoddodd (G) dyn ei (C) droed. (C) Mae'r panda (G) wedi colli'i dir, (F) a'i ryddid yn y (C) byd, Ond sut mae (F) 'sbonio hynny'n awr, wrth (C) Lisa yn y (G) crud? Y ni (F) oedd fod ofalwyr -- i'r (C) harddwch hwn i gyd, Ond ni allem (F) weld mai (C) natur -- a (G) Lisa bia'r (C) byd |
