I am looking for a song which I believe either Linda thompson or June Tabor sang.It is a beautiful haunting tune which is called something like, 'ghost ship' or 'spyship' and it pertains to the sinking of the trawler 'Gaul'. It was used by the BBC as the theme tune to a series about 10-15 years ago, which dealt with the sinking of a trawlership and the government cover up as it was suspecting of spying. Although the series was based in the North east it related heavily to the incident of the Hull trawler Gaul. It starred Tom Wilkinson of The full monty fame, but other than that I only have a vague memory of it. I wish to trace this and I wondered if it had been published (by the BBC?) or if any one knows of its source?

me too Im looking for the same song. it starts

a cold wind blew over the sea
A cold wind blew over the mighty sea
and it took good men
Good fishing men from their wives and families.

I know it was issued as a BBC single. no idea what the title was. I just want the tune and lyrics.

Linda,

I remember the series as "Spyship".

We taped it on VCR, but not sure if it might have overwritten by now.

Will report back if in luck.

It was June Tabor that sang it I'm sure.

Also in search of this. I heard it within the last year, I think, on the radio as background music; wonder now if it was a Radio Humberside broadcast - might be worth a try.

Did you ever locate the song? If not I have the original BBC recording. Cheers John
