Irishman: "Nice dog you got there, Jimmy. Mind if I speak to him?"
Scotsman: "Ach, yer daft, my dog doesn't talk."
Irishman: "Hello to ya, Master dog and how's it going this fine day?"
Dog: "Goin' alright."

Scotsman: Look of shock!!

Irishman: "Is this Scotsman your owner?" pointing at Scotsman
Dog:: "Yep"
Irishman: "How does he treat you?"
Dog: "He treats me jus' fine. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great
food, And takes me to the river once a week to play."

Scotsman: Look of total disbelief

Irishman: "Mind if I talk to your horse?"
Scotsman: looking a bit tentative, "My horse doesn't talk."
Irishman: "Hello there horse, and how is it going for you today?"
Horse: "Couldn't be better!" exclaimed the horse joyfully.

Scotsman: Extreme look of shock!!!!

Irishman: "Is this your owner? "pointing at Scotsman
Horse: " 'tis"
Irishman: "And how does he treat you?"
Horse: "He treats me very well, thanks for asking. He rides me regularly,
brushes me down often, and keeps me in the barn to protect me from the
elements."

Scotsman: Total look of utter amazement

Irishman: "Mind if I talk to your sheep?"

Scotsman: "Now that sheep's a liar."

Right now if I put a single CR here **/ /** between the slashes ... nothing happens

If I put two CRs thusly **/

/** then I get double spaced lines

just trying to figure out how which keystroke combination causes a soft carriage return at this particular site.

This line is sandwiched by two consecutive "Returns"

This line is followed by "Shift-Return" as is this one ... and this one gets two "Returns"

Apparently alt-return and ctl-return do nothing.

(two more returns)

Hi thosp,
bgcolor is interpreted by most browsers only for table and body tag.
It is not interpreted for the font tag.
But you can use style sheets to get the background:
peace
The code I used for this effect is:
<font face=fantasy style="background-color:teal;" size=4>peace</font>
If you want to add a special color for the font, put it into the style as well, as in
<font face=fantasy style="background-color:teal;color:white;" size=4>peace</font>
peace

This is the tale my great grandfather, Martin Little told my father when he was a boy. Martin had begun a new life in America, away from the unrest and hard times - but he loved his native Ireland and had a great concern for its people. This is Martin's story;

Look Ahead Tommy

The land was rich in beauty, magic and song
But it was hard to raise a family, working someone else's land
So we kissed our Mom and sisters, our Dad he gave use fare
With me brothers Sean and Michael, I left them standin' there
So long ago

We worked a time in England, and we sent a bit back home
But Michael took to drinkin' and in two years he was gone
I moved on to Boston when Sean joined the Fusiliers
And I haven't seen the others for five and thirty years
to the day

Chorus:
Look ahead Tommy
This Boston life is kind
And you can build a better world
Then the one I left behind
Look ahead Tommy
And don't forget your name
Is a tribute to the land from which we came

In Galway and Kilkenny, where our friends and cousins many
Since nineteen hundred twenty, have been war torn by the day
In a land that's rife with troubles, we often share their struggles
In our hearts and in our prayers, your grandmother and me
Everyday

Go to Chorus

In Galway and Kilkenny, when the fightin' dies away
And peace returns to Ireland, so many miles away
Count your blessings in the new world, tell your children of their start
Oh and take me back to Ireland, if it's only in your heart
One day

Go to Chorus

Hi Joe,

I want to send you a cute picture of "Oh My Corn" with a graphic of an ear of corn in place of the word corn...but...I don't want to muck up this page with graphics, and I don't want to link to someone's page (like for instance, mine) like I think Wincing Devil did for his cute little devil graphic. I'll try to send you a personal note doing this. It would really come in handy for all those graphics I've tried to send in emails and just couldn't seem to get them to work for all the recipients. Let me know if it works.

Mary

It is not only a question of the browser but also a question of the font you use (if the character is not in the font used, even the best browser has no chance).
I have set Arial as the default font and Courier New as the Fixed-Width font.

To get accented letters, it is better to use the html symbolic characters, as these are interpreted by the browser (so they work even if the computer the page is viewed uses a different character set than the one where the page is written):
&<one of aeiou><one of acute, grave, circ, uml, ring>;
eg:
&aring; for å
&eacute; for é
&iuml; for ï
&ograve; for ò
&ucirc; for û
Careful: while HTML is usually case-insensitive, with these it is!

ring does only work for a and A, all the others work for all five vowels, small or capital.
acute and trema also work for y and Y.
uml, tilde, cedil, acute also work without a vowel, but not grave (why? I don't know!)

eg:
&Aring; for Å
&Euml; for Ë

There are more of these symbolic characters:
&amp; for &
&quot; for "
&szlig; for ß
&gt; for >
&lt; for <
&copy; for ©
&reg; for ®
&acute; for ´
&aelig; for æ (also for AE)
&laquo; for «
&raquo; for »
&iexcl; for ¡
&iquest; for ¿
&Atilde; for à (works also for a, n, N, o, O)
&Ccedil; for Ç (similar for c)
&Oslash; for Ø (similar for o)
&sect; for §
&para; for ¶
&micro; for µ
&brvbar; for ¦
&plusmn; for ±
&deg; for °
&darr; for ↓ (d for down, u for up, l for left, r for right, h for horizontal (both left and right))
&frac14; for ¼ (also works for 12,34)
&times; for ×
&divide; for ÷
&bull; for •
&middot; for ·
&sup14; for ¹ (also works for 2 and 3)
&shy; for
&macr; for ¯
&cent; for ¢
&pound; for £
&yen; for ¥

You can also use (most of ?) the greek alphabet, just use &<name of greek letter>; (e.g.: &alpha; for α, &Gamma; for Γ) If you use a small letter as the first letter, you will get the small greek letter; if you use a capital as first letter, you get the capital greek letter.

There are also a lot of mathematical and a few other symbols which I'd have to look up, as I do not use them very often.

Btw., this is one point where internet Exploder is better than Netscape Navigator: Netscape does not interprete all these symbols...

Pasting from Word 97 puts a lot of junk HTML into the message, much of which shouldn't be there. Your message 08-Feb-00 - 08:07 AM actually appears like this if you View Source on the Forum Page:

<P>If you use word 97 or above format everything as you want it in word, SAVE: as HTML, VIEW: html source, COPY: to clipboard then PASTE: into message box (here)<br> <P>

</HTML>

<br>
<br>
Then you do not have to learn any but the most basic HTML codes such as line breaks
<br>
<br>
and blue clickies regards Ted
<P>
You should only paste the bit between the <BODY> and </BODY> tags. Max's elves put the stuff in bold at the very start and end of the whole thread, as it relates to the whole document, rather than individual messages.

Even so, it's a pretty nifty tool, especially when you've got long messages and/or lots of tricky formatting.

Keep on experimenting - maybe one day you'll get to LVeMaiL, rather than HaTeMaiL

Wassail!
