Not wanting to invoke the wrath of those with more sensible sensibilities out there. I would like the words of this "should-be" Feminist Anthem.

It starts out

"Girls" said the Principal of Terrra Nova High School, "once again, it is my pleasure to ____ " A Bob Bossin song, I think. Anyone got the words?

You might have to be Canadian to know this one.

Many hopes

James

Actually, paddmac, this is what the song is about; it is the high school girls response to the principal's suggestion they try out for a beauty queen contest. Applying the principles used in judging a beauty contest in reverse makes a very funny song IMHO. I think John McCutcheon sings this, and so it would be at his website. If not, I have the Bob Bossin tape around here .... somewhere....
Blessings,
Barbara

It's a quite mild little satire that my friend Bob wrote many years ago. The song basically reverses the "high school beauty queen" thing, when a student asks the principal to "show us the length of your cock". My record of "Stringband's" version is sadly scratched all to hell, so I hope someone has a source. It's a fun song..but probably not as shocking as it would have been 25 years ago.

Rick

I heard it done by Bright Morning Stars, the group Charlie King was in a number of years back. They did some great stuff. My friend Pat probably has the lyrics. It was one of her favorites. I'll ask.

Thanks for the tip Barbara - I tried John McCutcheon's site - no luck, alas, but an interesting site and an artist new to me.

Susan - thanks for the interest. I hope your friend Pat has it.

Cheers,

James.

Well, I found my Bob Bossin tape "Bossin's Generic Tape" and Dang! It doesn't have this song on it. So, Susan and friend, it's up to you.
Blessings,
Barbara

SHOW US THE LENGTH
Bob Bossin

"Now girls," said the principal of Terra Nova High School,
"Each year at this time it's a pleasure to me
To introduce to you the mayor of Pacifica
Who's come here today to choose our annual beauty queen,
Who will be," said the mayor, "a very lucky girl
To represent Pacifica throughout the state,
And who could go on to be Miss California,
Or even Miss America some day.
Now let's have those volunteers."
One girl stood and without any fear,
Said:

CHORUS: "Show us the length of your cock.
Are you hung like a beaver or hung like a bear?
Let us heft the weight of your rocks
So that we might have a standard by which to compare.
You men needn't be embarrassed if it's short or bent or slender.
The personality is as important as the member,
So drop your trousers and make the news.
Don't judge us or else we'll judge you."

2. Well the girls looked at their teachers who were looking at the principal
Who was looking at the mayor who was looking at his shoes.
The mayor said to the principal, "you really must excuse me now,
But I have just remembered I've got something else to do."
But before he could get to leave the room,
The same girl came forward holding out a ruler.
The mayor took off like a kite in the wind.
She started singing again: (Chorus)

3. "Now, girls," said the principal of Terra Nova high school,
"I've called you back to say a few words.
A girl has been suspended for the rest of the term,
The result of this behavior of which you all have heard.
It was a blow to the school's good name.
We believe in freedom, but license is not the same.
This women's liberation may be partially true,
But that's never an excuse for being rude."

(It sometimes then finishes with another chorus or just stops here.)

Even though I lived around southern Ontario when Bob wrote this...early 70's....I learned it from a hippy Scottish crofter in 1983....thank you Jake Williams.

Hope this helps you....a good song but mind your audience...as the coed learned in the song
Cheers
Ed Winacott....singer/songwriter lurking near Pefferlaw Ontario.

I believe the title of this song is "Terra Nova High".

I heard Charlie King and Bright Morning Star sing this song a number of years ago at the Clearwater Festival.

It was 2 PM in the afternoon and there were many young kids in the audience. Needless to say, their parents were none too pleased.

Lyrics were also posted in an old thread: Click here. The words there are slightly different.

Bob Bossin's web site also has a sound clip.

Those parents had good reason to be displeased.

I remember hearing this sung by Jane Voss at the Bear Mountain Festival in the Catskills in New York, and I had the 45 record version of it, from back in the '80s, but my ex wife kept it after the divorce.

I remember hearing this song sung by Bob Bossin and the other members of Stringband at a long-ago (1981?) Vancouver Folk Festival. I already knew the song, as I was a huge fan of Stringband and Bossin -- but Holly Near's sign interpreter, who offered her interpreting skills to Stringband on the fly, did not.

It was so much fun to watch her sign this song!

Show me the length of Yor cock
Are you hung like a beaver or hung like a bear
Let me test the weight of your rocks
So we can have a standard by which to compare
Doesn’t matter if it’s shirt or fat or slender
The personality is as important as the member
So drop your pants and spread the news
But don’t judge lest we judge you
