Any relation of "See'ya later alligator, aftr'a while Crocodile" (Bill Haley)?

Best alligator song I know is The Lakes of Pontchartrain :

"I said, me pretty creole girl, me money here's no good -
If it weren't for the alligators, I'd sleep out in the wood."

McGrath, do you have the lyrics to the Bill Haley & the Comets song?

And did anyone ever find the song sought in this thread?

Somewhere recently I heard - just once on a radio station I don't usually listen to... they play that Country stuff... a great song by an aussie singer called (I think) Crocodile Roll. (the song, not the singer) Very dry laconic style, with singer half talking about camping and his dog at the side of the creek. Suddenly a croc comes up and GRAB... "..and then it's crocodile roll.." Next verse (if I remember right.. it's the wife, then the singer.. suddenly stop. Brilliantly dry stuff. Must try and find out more, but trouble is, it might be - shock horror - in the C&W section in the record store.

For Genie

Here's a copy of the song from one of the numerous Bill Haley lyrics sites here.

See You Later Alligator
Robert Guidry - 1956 Harman Music Ltd

Well, I saw my baby walkin' with another guy today
Well, I saw my baby walkin' with another guy today
When I asked her what's the matter,
This is what I heard her say

[Chorus]
See you later alligator, after 'while crocodile
See you later alligator, after 'while crocodile
Can't you see you're in my way now,
Don't you know you cramp my style

When I though of what she told me
Nearly made me lose my head
When I though of what she told me
Nearly made me lose my head
But the next time that I saw her,
Reminded her of what she said

She said I'm sorry pretty baby
You know my love is just for you
She said I'm sorry pretty baby
You know my love is just for you
Won't you say that you'll forgive me
And say your love for me is true

I said wait a minute 'gator, I know you meant it just for play
I said wait a minute 'gator, I know you meant it just for play
Don't you know you really hurt me
And this is what I have to say

;-)
Ian

Subject: Lyr Add: BLACK EYE BLUES (Ma Rainey)
From: greg stephens
Date: 13 Jun 02 - 06:30 PM

Coming in two years late here, but the original request refers to Ma Rainey's "Black Eye Blues".
I quote from memory):

BLACK EYE BLUES
(Ma Rainey)

Down in Hogan's alley lived Miss Nancy Ann
Always fussing and squabbling with her man
I heard Miss Nancy say
Girl why do you treat your man this way
Went down the alley the other night
Nancy and man were just having a fight
He beat Miss Nancy round the head
When she rose to her feet and said

CHORUS
You low down alligator Gonna get you soon or later
Gonna catch you with your britches down
You 'buse me and mistreat me
You dog me round and beat me
Still I'm gonna hang around
Take all my money black both my eyes
Give it another woman come home and tell me lies
You low down alligator gonna get you soon or later
Gonna catch you with your britches down.

I remember it well because I used to work as the blues singer Delia Glaister's accompanist many moons ago, and she always sang it. original recording Ma rainey, accompanied Georgia Tom Dorsey piano and Tampa Red guitar I think. Not as lyrical an alligator song as Pontchartrain, but not at all bad.

I was just about to suggest Ma (Gertrude) Rainey. Looks 'bout right. Best female blues singer IMHO.
call me Gert & leave the rude part out - she never did!

Ozmacca, I bet the singer you are referring to is John Williamson. He wrote the song and has recorded it on two or three of his albums. His most recent album, "Mates On The Road", along with many others, is available from his web site. Just do a search on John Williamson and click on the entry "Australian balladeer".
John did two concerts in the USA back in February--one in Lugna Beach, California, and the other in Springfield, Missouri. Fantastic performer!!!!!! One person drove all the way from Georgia, another from South Carolina, and a third flew from Seattle, Washington. They came just to see and hear the concert!! Anyone who inspires dedication like that must be a bit above average, wouldn't you say?

The song is actually called " Black Eye Blues" and Ma Rainey has done it along with others

This is NOT from memory; I actually listened to a recording (that I heard on Spotify) and made these corrections:

BLACK EYE BLUES
As sung by Ma Rainey

VERSE: Down in Hogan's alley lived Miss Nancy Ann,
Always fussin', squabblin' with her man.
Then I heard Miss Nancy say:
"Why do you treat your gal that way?"
I went down the alley, other night.
Nancy an' her man had just had a fight.
He beat Miss Nancy 'cross the head.
When she rose to her feet she said:

CHORUS: "You low-down alligator, just watch me; soon or later
Gonna catch you with your britches down.
You 'buse me an' mistreat me.
You dog me 'round an' beat me.
Still I'm gonna hang around.
Take all my money, black up both o' my eyes,
Give it to another woman, come home an' tell me lies.
You low-down alligator, just watch me; soon or later
Gonna catch you with your britches down,
I mean,
Gonna catch you with your britches down.

REPEAT CHORUS

(If you ask me, the title of this thread should be changed to "Lyr Req: Black Eye Blues (Ma Rainey)". Then this song will be easier to find by anyone who is searching for either "Black Eye Blues" or Ma Rainey songs—but then nobody ever asked me.
