Subject: the louvin bros. or the wilburn bros.
From: GUEST,derekd@dtccom.net
Date: 09 Feb 00 - 04:59 PM

I am looking for a song that the louvin bros. or the wilburn bros. recorded. My grandfather used to sing it all the time to my grandmother on mother's day. I believe the name of the song is "For All I Have For You Mom, is this Rose". I'm pretty sure that is what the title is. If anyone out there can send me the lyrics to this song, please do so by e-mail at derekd@dtccom.net. I would like to carry on my grandfathers tradition and sing it to my wife when Mother's Day comes around. Any help in getting the lyrics to this song will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Derek D.

derekd,

This 'catter at least, hopes the lyrics get posted here in the forum - you can just check back here now and then, to see when they turn up, or to let us know if you found them (in that case post'em here 'cause now we're curious) or if you're still looking. You know, just talk like you're in on the way back to your cafe table, beer in one hand and coffee in the other.

Welcome!

Allmusic.com says ALL I HAVE FOR YOU was written by Dale Davis. It is sung by The Wilburn Brothers on the album "The Wilburn Brothers Show with Loretta Lynn and Harold Morrison" (1966).

Subject: Lyr Add: ALL I HAVE FOR YOU MUM (from Margo)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 10 Nov 11 - 12:20 PM

My transcription from the recording found on Spotify:

ALL I HAVE FOR YOU MUM
As sung by Margo on "Ireland's Where I Call Home" (2010)

1. I've been looking through a window at an orchid, mother dear
I wanted so to buy it just for you
To thank you for your many prayers that heaven only knows
But all I have for you, mum, is this rose

2. I tried to buy that orchid, and, mum, I'll tell you why:
Ev'ry day should be mother's day for you.
It's not much to say "I love you" but still I hope it shows,
Though all I have for you, mum, is this rose.

3. When my life is over and I hear the trumpets blow,
I'll meet you up in heaven on that day.
God will hand to you an orchid as he takes you in his fold,
But all I have for you, mum, is this rose.

REPEAT #2.
Yes, all I have for you, mum, is this rose

[This sounds like old-fashioned American country music, the kind you'd hear from, say, Kitty Wells. I'm not very well acquainted with Irish country music, but I'm struck by the similarities.]
