Subject: Foot race with Death - Black gospel recording From: garst@sunchem.chem.uga.edu Date: 06 Oct 96 - 04:36 PM I heard a fragment of the subject song on the radio 4-5 years ago. I've made a lot of enquiries, but so far no one has identified it for me. Perhaps someone here can do that. The story is spoken over a musical background, as I recall. An old man falls in by a young man as he jogs. When the young man tries to shake him by going all out, he is surprised that the old man keeps up. Frightened, he asks, "Who are you?" The old man replies, "I am Death." |

It was released in 1976 on Savoy 4360, the flip-side of "I. O. U.." It was written by Eugene Bruns Here are the lyrics, as I hear them: Job said that man borned of a woman is but of a few days and full of trouble. I wanna tell you the story today of a young man who was a noted athlete. He'd ran many races in his life, and never been defeated. |
