Subject: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: GutBucketeer Date: 10 Feb 00 - 12:41 AM What does everyone think about having our next Hearme Song Circle on Sunday 2/13? We have had several on Monday nights but next Monday is Valentines Day, and I figure many of you MCers may have other plans for that evening (or at least will probably get in trouble when you spend 3 hours of it on Mudcat singing to people around the world instead of being attentive to your one and only). So I suggest that we do it on Sunday night. The best time for me (being selfish) is 10:00 pm EST. By that time the kids are in bed AND Xfiles is over (its a continuation from this week concerning Mulder's Sister - again). Is that Ok with people, or should we do it earlier or later. Now...The Topic: Since I'm not up for V-Day yet what about: He/She done me wrong songs (Little Sadie, Gypsy Davey, Frankie and Johnny...), Unrequited Love (Wallflower, Hard Ain't it Hard, My husbands got no courage in him, Never Marry and Old Man...), and/or The joys/perils of Marriage (Bald Headed End Of The Broom, Wish I was Single Again, The Man Who Wrote Home Sweet Home Never was a Married Man, The Devil and the Farmers Wife, The Housewifes Lament...) That should put us all in the mood for Valentines! JAB

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: katlaughing Date: 10 Feb 00 - 12:57 AM Oh, Lonesome Me! X-Files will just be starting here in the Rockies, JAB! Anybody like to make a picnic of it, in the afternoon, maybe? If not, that's okay, I'll just come in late. Praise, in answer to your question on the other thread...vee haf our vays, dawlink of gettin yew hooked!**BG** Actually we have this wonderful program which Max linked into the Mudcat, where we can hear each otehr in a "virtual" song circle. It has bene great fun, so I hope you will join us. You do not have to have the program, but you will need a microphone hooked up to your computer. There is the audio ability and there is also a text chat function. HearMe, Sunday or, be square!!:-) kat (lower case "k", 'cause there is another "Kat" on here, thanks) |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: GutBucketeer Date: 10 Feb 00 - 01:08 AM Cod liver Oil, also fits the description. I remember another song about a farmer trying to do his wifes chores. They switch for a day and he can't milk the cow, or churn the butter, etc. She can do his tasks easily. I know I have it, just can't find it. I have too many blankity blank song books.... Kat, Yes let's try to find a time where everyone that wants to join in can do so. If people want to do it earlier then we can. I can even tape Xfiles and be time independent. That is why I posted the day early. MBO, JudyO, Aine, Harpgirl, Jon (sorry for the SP) what do you think ? Monday would also be ok for me (As you can tell from the topic) but I figured it wouldn't be for others, especially you young single guys and gals. JAB |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: Mbo Date: 10 Feb 00 - 08:00 AM I like 9:00pm better. I have to get up at 6:30am every morning and my sister & I usually go to bed early--so I don't like to keep her up with my singing...yes, yes, I like the unrequited love theme. Fits in perfect with the way I feel right know. And I know lots of songs about it too. Valentine's Day is not going to be happy, at least for me--except the Hearme thing will cheer me up I guess! Misery loves company! --Mbo |

Picking hubby up from airport Sunday afternoon/night and I think he's probably even cuter than all of you rolled up into one, so... Awful image, delete! |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: GutBucketeer Date: 13 Feb 00 - 11:24 PM I had a great time: I really liked what everyone sang. It would be fun to be able to look up some of the songs, or have a memory jogger , as it were for who sang what. So to start the record off to the best of my recollection I sang:
Never Wed an Old Man or An Old Man Came Courting Me by Traditional (sung by Pete Seeger) I don't think I sang anything else. What did everyone else sing? JAB |
|
Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: katlaughing Date: 13 Feb 00 - 11:30 PM Good idea, JAB. I was also wondering if this would be a good general time that we could just set for each week, so that it became a regular for anyone who could make it that week? Let's hear what you think, Catters, okay? Near as I cna remember I sang,
Prairie Lullaby (thanks for listening to it, twice!) Thanks a bunch! |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Feb 00 - 11:39 PM Yeah, it really WAS fun. Wish I had discovered it a little earlier. Saturday and Sunday are best for me - I'm out doing music most weekenights. I sang Key of R, My God, He Is a Rock, and Sydney Carter's Julian of Norwich. It sure was fun, and it was nice to hear everybody sing. -Joe Offer, still trying to fix tech problems- |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: Jon Freeman Date: 14 Feb 00 - 05:59 AM For the record, I sang Willie Moore and The Worm Song. I mentioned this in Hearme but I will extend the cut off time to 10 minutes tonight as there still were a couple of singers who did get cut off before they had finished their songs. It is possible to set Hearme up with no cut off time but my inclination is to set a reasonable time limit for any one "talk". If anybody has and thoughts on this issue,ie what to set it to and whether the cut off should be there, please let me know. I saw this room described as "Jon's Mudcat Hearme". I am a little concerned about this title as although it intended for the use of Mudcatters, there has been no agreement with Max or Mudcat on this. Also, I am against spliting things (ie, in this case creating what was an additional Hearme room for the song circles) but in this instance, the current MC timeouts are frustrating when it comes to singing/ playing and "my" room is only intended to offer a temporary solution until Max has the time to alter the "official" room or possibly even offers a different serivice, eg one he has developed. Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: harpgirl Date: 14 Feb 00 - 08:28 AM ...that really was FUN! I enjoyed hearing everyone sing and recite and I can't wait to do it again...I did: Grey Funnel Line by Cyril Tawney Local Flowers with autoharp by Tom T Hall The Scotsman Jack Hagarty and The Blackest Crow with guitar Holding a pencil between my toes to depress the F9 key was a bit awkward though, and I will try to install Jon's button program....many thanks to JAB and Jon Freeman for their technical and organizational skills!!!...harp |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 14 Feb 00 - 12:38 PM I had a great time, and please forgive me if I hogged the microphone. I did The Ratcatcher's Daughter; a Child ballad whose name I disremember, about Willy's ghost making a final call on his lover; an original of mine called Lullaby for a Breastfed Baby; The Frozen Logger; and Sing Anything. I THINK that's everything I did. I look forward to next time; there's A LOT of good old songs in my hopper, ready to pop out. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: Next Hearme: What about Sun 2/13? From: GutBucketeer Date: 14 Feb 00 - 01:59 PM Dave: There is no way that you hogged the mic. Every song was great, though I can't imagine a child actually falling asleep to your Lullaby :)! Thanks for joining us JAB |

From: DonMeixner Date: 15 Feb 00 - 08:43 PM I also had a good time and was on long enough to do "The Burning of Kingston" from one of Pete Seegar's Hudson River Songs albums. I don't have the latching program so I'll still have to hold the F8 button down with my elbow as i Ising and play the guitar. Great fun. Don |
