There are several songs known as Lough Erne's Shore - none of them so far as I know is "Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore" The best known Lough Erne's Shore is that which begins "One morning as I went a-fowling." Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore begins "On the [6th or tenth etc] of May we sailed away" If you post enough for me to be able to identify the song I'll guide you to a source.

I know nothing about the Corrs - only about Irish songs and the people who sing them in almost private gatherings.

I'm sure you're right John about the lyrics....... but the track by that name on the Corrs CD is an instrumental (no lyrics...)of "Paddy's Green shamrock shore"...... they use it as an intro to "Forgiven not forgotten" .. and as a full instrumental later on the CD....

Maybe they thought the other name sounded better...

MAN I love that song & the tune! If my Japanese pen pal hadn't sent me "Forgiven Not Forgotten" (the Japanese version with an extra track) I never would have got into Celtic music. The song "Closer" on that album is what made me want to write music for the first time. Just wait till that day when I make a CD with my 11-minute arrangement of "Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore"!

The question in my mind is - does this change qualify as folk process or commercial opportunism?

Having seen them play live...... and they were excellent.... they play "trad" stuff really well.... but they only played a few.... I assume it was not to scare off the "pop" audience..... (it's selling CDs.. therefore we won't scare them off playing trad tunes.. or putting in the proper names because they might sound a bit boring).... well I assume that's what they are thinking.....

the arrangement of Toss the Feathers on the same CD is another goodie.....

Oh yeah! Toss the Feather rocks! The Japanese album version my friend sent me had an extra track--"Somebody Else's Boyfriend." Oh MAN! You just gotta hear it to believe it!

Martin,

In my book, carelessness qualifies as folk process.

I found a copy of the Bill Wannan, Australian book in Belfast yesterday - I'll keep it for you until Ballyliffin - £8.00 sterling and the exchange rate is not in your favour - but then you knew that.

Subject: Lyr Add: PADDY'S GREEN SHAMROCK SHORE
From: GUEST,conor

From Derry's quay we sailed away on the twenty-third of May.
We were signed on as passengers on a ship bought down for Americay.
Fresh water there we did take on, ten thousand gallons or more,
Just in case we run short running down to New York, far away from the shamrock shore.

So fare thee well, sweet Lisa dear, and likewise to Derry town,
And twice farewell to my comrades all who dwell on that sainted ground.
If fortune it ever should favor me, or I to have money in store,
I'll go back and I'll wed the wee lassie I left on Paddy's green shamrock shore.

All the best,
