does anyone know of rhymes along the theme of "dost thee not know me,i'm me ma's little lass straight home from 't factory got muck on me hands got muck on me brass dost thee not know me, i'm me ma's little lass

do you not know me i'm mama's little girl straight home from boarding school snowy white hands and snowy white dress do you not know me,i'm mama's little girl"

there are variants i've heard but can't remember

one from yorkshire starts "we were right down int' coal hole where mud sticks ter windows" the second verse starts "we were right down in the basement where the duast sticks to the casement" but thats all i can remember

anyone know of anything similar?

I seem to remember one sung by the late Harry Boardman from Lancashire

We're deep down in't coal hole
Wi' mud slapped on't winders
We've used all our coal up
And we're reet down't cinders
If bum bailif calls here
Then he win'it find us
cos we're deep down in't coal hole
Wi' mud slapped on't winders

Yes Marymac we did get home I'll write to you later
Cheers Bill

dear bill thanks for that, tho' there must be a second verse to give a poor/rich theme.i'll experiment starting "we were right down in the basement where the dust sticks to the casement" in the meanwhile anyone heard of similar poor/rich themes?

I feel I do remember little bits of the other part
We are deep down in the basement where the dirt accumulates on the casement
We've used all our anthricite and we're down to the residue
If the landlords representitives visit us then we are not conspicuous
For we are deep down in the basement where the dirt accumulates on the casement
Excuse the spelling
Cheers Bill

Do you mean like the 'posh' version of Show me the way to go home
Which I can't remember. Something like

Show me the way to my perpetual abode
I'm fatigued and I wish to recapitulate
I partook of liquid refreshment sixty minutes ago
And it's gone right to my cranium
Where-ever I may perambulate
Over land or sea or atmospheric pressure
You may always hear me chanting this madrigal
Show me the way to my perpetual abode.

That's not rich and poor though.
