I have it on a Richard Dyer-Bennett LP from many years ago.

The Watersons recorded The Lincolnshire Shepherd on Green Fields (originally 1981).  The Lincolnshire Poacher is a completely different song.  Which one do you mean?

Since the song was published in Bell's 'Songs of the Peasantry' (which is on the web) in 1857, it doesn't appear to have been written by Sidney Carter.

The Spinners recorded it for 'The Spinners Are In Town' in 1970. Can't remember if Mick or Hugh sang the lead, but the rest of the group sang the chorus, so if yours is a solo recording it's not them. BTW, I've found Sydney Carter listed as the author. Any opinions? Or hard facts? - Susanne

John Roberts and Tony Barrand recorded it in 197something, but I can't remember the name of the album now. It's in the DT here, where it says it was recorded by Dyer-Bennet and John Runge.

Hi,

I see there's a CD out now by The Watersons that includes the song The Lincolnshire Poacher. I remember listening to a record, artist unknown, in the early 1980s that contained this song. Is this CD a remake of that old record or did someone else perform this song prior to about 1982? I have been looking for this for years. Thanks for any help! Pat
