I am looking for the origin of a song my great-grandmother used to sing. I would like to obtain the complete words and music if possible. The song begins: "Sang a pretty brooklet, dancing down the dell, I must haste sweet flowers though I love you well. Soon I'll be a river rushing to the sea. What a merry moment that will be for me!"

Anyone with any knowledge of this song, please e-mail me. mary@ift-aft.org

Thanks for your help.

Mary--

You will need to look in the Mudcat Cafe Forum for any replies to your song request, as putting them into your e-mail would make them inacessible to other current and future members of the Mudcat. (I am copying this to your e-mail so you'll be sure to come back here.)

Several other requests for lyrics received in the forum in the last day or two have addressed how to search through the Mudcat resources to find things, and I recommend you open those forum topics to learn some of the things we've learned about finding things.

You don't need to be a "member" to use these resources but it is a wonderful thing to be part of, and as a recent joiner I highly recommend you not only join, but return often. As far as I can tell, there is no limit to what you can learn and share in folk/blues at the Mudcat, and little limit on the kindness and creativity of its members either. Hope you will be back!
