Chords are determined by the song being played.

Modal tuning tends to support songs in minor (and modal) scales. But you have to work out the chords against the song, not from the instrument.

If you were playing a banjo in G modal, I would be experimenting with Em, D, G, C and B7 as likely chords,d epending entirely on what song was being played.
