It's SPRING!!! The Sandhill Cranes are mustering for the long trek to the northern breeding grounds. I just saw a flight of about a hundred of them right over my house. It"s spring again. New growth, new songs, new friends; winter and the grey time are over. The redbuds are blooming and the azaleas are ripe with buds ready to burst into a riot of color. It's spring in Florida and soon it will be spring on up the coast, reaching all the way to northern Canada. The world renews itself once more. It's SPRING!!!

One of the things I really miss about living in more temperate climes, is the changing of the seasons. Here in Brazil ( Recife, the Northeast of Brazil) there is no change in seasons, it's normally hot ( at the moment DAYMN HOT!!), or hot with a bit of rain thrown in. I miss the daffys and crocii ( crocuses?) coming out in spring, and the walks through the bluebell woods behind my old home in the summer. Then the crackle of the golden leaves as I raised after my dog in Ashridge park on a crisp autumn morning...though the crappy arse end of winter in the UK I do NOT miss.

-sigh-

Oh well better get to the beach and work some more on my tan.

Spring my BUTT! Not in Wyo--it's snowing, and I haven't even seen a robin. Nobody here but crows and house finches. We've got another 2 months to wait,!

This sort of premature springiness really tires out us Canadians. The hope of spring -- cruelly betrayed in March, April -- wears us out. Green shoots covered in snow drifts. Are you by any chance selling March break vacations? (joke, joke!! I look forward to the cranes.....)
yours, Peter T.

True Peter, but you get a definite changing of the seasons whereas we in Florida have more of a gentle easing from one to the other throughout the year. Maybe thats why I get excited by the Cranes. It's a definitive sign. I do miss the colors of fall but not enough to move back north. My arthritis does'nt like the cold and damp. Otherwise I'd be back in the mountains of North Carolina where I was raised instead of here in the flatlands.

It snowed this am, we had sunshine this pm and it is very cold. It is great to hear that spring has sprung somewhere. I look forward to warmer brighter days soon......

I appreciate Troll's insistence that it is spring, even here in the cold and snow.

But for those of you still in denial that it could be spring, I hear that Troll is planning to fly us all to Florida as soon as he cashes that lottery check. I just hope they don't make me go to Disneyland.

Here in Maryland, it's in the 40s and they're predicting snow, sleet, and freezing rain for the morning (the fabled Wintry Mix - sounds like a snack food). I appreciate reminders that spring is coming; it makes it a lot easier to get up in the morning. Thanks Troll.

My orange trees are starting to blossom. The weather will probably stay nice until spring baseball starts. Then winter will prove it's not really over.

Gee, the sun is shining, I have polyanthus blooming on the porch and my fucia bush still has blossoms on it from last fall and I live in Canada too. But then again, we in Lotus Land, don't exist to anyone living east of Winnepeg.

Here in Colorado, the ski resorts are still hoping forn WINTER to appear. We've been unusually dry and warm this year. Probably due to El Nino or La Nina or something. It's kind of nice to have a mild winter, but if we don't get more high mountain snowpack, the downstream folks may suffer. (I'm not too worried about the ski resorts).

This just in, has nothing to do with the topic. I offer it in penance for being crabby earlier.

"Fallen"

There's an old priest who got sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, "If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I'll quit!"

Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had "fallen."

This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the mayor of the town and seemed very concerned.

The priest said, "You have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen."

The mayor started to laugh, realizing that no one had told the new priest about the code word.

Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, "I don't know what you're laughing about, your wife fell three times this week."
