Subject: Hearme Sing: Sunday Feb. 20 7:30pm EST
From: GutBucketeer
Date: 17 Feb 00 - 10:28 PM

Just re-posting the time and date for the next Hearme Sing.

Sunday Feb. 20 at 7:30 pm EST in the newest Mudcat Hearme room (see Jon's site)

Newest Mudcat Hearme Once you link to this site click on the Join Chat box.

See the discussion in the "Regular Hearme time, When ?" thread.

The topic:

Spring at last, Spring at last, or Has Spring, Sprung?, or Whose right, Max or the Woodchuck?

See ya there...

Here is an idea...

Would anyone be willing to teach banjo, guitar, autoharp, or voice lessons over the internet using Hearme or some equivalent (PowWow, Firetalk, Excite Voice, even Net Meeting). Some of these programs even support on-line camera's for video links. We could even auction off lessons to help support the Mudcat.

I got to thinking that I know that I'm somewhat musically challenged (tone deaf and got no rhythm, can't spell either). I would love to get pointers, suggestions, etc. on how to improve my playing and singing. I can take constructive critcism (I think), otherwise How Will I get Better? That got me to thinking about the possibilities of using Hear me for other types of things.... Like Lessons.

Imagine, getting an hour lesson from some of the greats that we do have haunting Mudcat like Rick Fielding, Art Thieme, Kendal, and many many others. We could even learn a little Gaelic

What do you think?

JAB

Thanks, Jon, for doing the room and all.

See ya there!

Little Red Bird
Traditional

Emma Christian

Little red bird of the black peat ground
Black peat ground, black peat ground
Little red bird of the black peat ground
Where did you sleep last night

Did I not sleep last night on the top of the bush
On the top of the bush, On the top of the bush
With rain falling on every side
And oh! wretched was my sleep

Did I not sleep last night on the top of the briar
On the top of the briar, on the top of the briar
While the wind was blowing all around
And oh! wretched was my sleep

I slept last night between two leaves
Between two leaves, between two leaves
As the baby sleeps on the breast of the mother
And oh! my sleep was good

For you Mbo enjoy.....Yours,Aye. Dave

Ok, well I got my little microphone, have it plugged in now, so NEXT WEEK I'm good to go. What do I do besides click on that link? Do I need to download some program before the appointed time?

the idea of a camera is pretty scary. You mean, like, comb my hair on Sunday? Hmmmphf...

WyoWoman, mic at the ready,

There is no camera. Text chat is possible and you can still listen and talk that way but as you have done, you really need the mike to get the best of it.

Unfortunately, hearme only supports PC's running Windows at the moment an also requires Internet Explorer 4 or higher to be installed (doesn't have to be the browser you use though). Assuuming you have that, a short download is required when you first try to join.

Well, WYO WOman, ya better go reset them cookies so we can HEAR you next week! In the Quick Links, remember. Sorry we missed you tonight.

For the record, I sang, in no particular order:

Flowers of Summer by Delton L. Hudson,br> The Hobo's Lullaby in the DT
Art Thieme's Cowboy Barbara Allen in the DT
That's Not My Colorado music & lyrics by me, lyrics in the Mudcat Songbook
Spirit of the Summer-Time in an old music book of mine
and, I read the lyrics from the DT of Springtime in Alaska

You all sounded just wonderful! Thanks!

I have recovered my cookie, thenkyew.

I actually was down in Douglas tonight, recording "Prairie Lullabye" and "I'm so Lonesome I could Cry." Ta-DAH! It isn't professional, by any stretch, but it doesn't sound utterly terrible, either.

So, I'll be sure and connect with you folks next Sunday. Don't make the theme too tough for my limited repertoire -- something broad like: Bodies of Water, or Land Masses (although I just wrote "Lamb Masses" instead -- which might open up all kinds of possiblities, at least for the Mudcat cookbook.)

Hasta pasta, WW

There were actually two sessions, each was great.

A WON-derful time was had by all--or at least by me; you call can speak for yourselves.
I sang RAMBLES OF SPRINGwith banjo; then two little Scandihoovian spoof songs called IN DE VINTER and IT'S GONNA BE A LONG HARD VINTER with guitar; then an original piece of mine called COME ALL YOU YOUNG MAIDENS (how do you like that for an original title?) with guitar; and lastly THE KLAN, with banjo again.
I'm looking forward to next time. What are we going to sing about?

I am passing the organizing torch to anyone that wants it for next sing. Weather is cool, or hot, as the case may be. Here in D.C. it is the perogative of the host to set the subject of the sing at their house, but how do you host a hearme sing? Last night I brought Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream and Beer! Yum, but no one took any but me :-).

HarpGirl, I played a blues (Baby please don't go) for MBO on my autoharp last time. You must Rap for us at the next session!!! MBO will provide backup on the Mudcat Guitar, I'll play bass on my washtub!

Weather sounds like a fine topic MBO. Should it be good weather, bad weather, unusual weather, under the weather:-).

I'll post a message tomorrow on the topic and time so people can plan ahead. In the mean time if anyone wants to change the time to accomodate others or has other suggestions. Let's hear them.

I would like to start rotating the "host" simply because there will be weeks that I will be out of town, or otherwise busy. If we have a system for sharing/passing the hosting then I think it will more likely that the sings become self-sustaining. That's the only reason I'm suggesting sharing the responsibility. So Far I love doing it.

JAB

Guest, if you mean the song posted above by Dave TAM at 20 Feb 00 - 10:40 PM, it already looks like a phonetic transcription to me (from Irish?)- at least it doesn't look like standard spelling for any language I have seen.

What is it you have problems with?
