The rush of people staking out claims on the Mudcat Locator seems to have died down recently, and there are still enormous chunks of the world which appear to be bereft of Mudcatters. Or inhabited by Undercover Cats.

For newcomers, check out the bbc resources entry on Quick Links at the top of the forum page, to find out what I'm talking about. And I wish there were pictures of a few more of the people posting regularly in the bbc rogues gallery. I wouldn't have thought so many of us would be so bashful.

McGrath of Harlow- I'm glad I saw your thread. Gives me a chance to rant. I had seen the "Resources", but couldn't figure out how to get back. (I'm fairly new). I thought that maybe it was a casualty of the recent identity impersonation fiasco.

So I posted a question on how to get to the resources section. Several Mudcatters graciously responded in short order, including bbc. I really thought it was a reasonable request, but was floored by the respose of an UNNAMED GUEST, who let me know only a total MORON would waste his valuable time with such spam. He sort of had a point: I could have e-mailed Max as my question was more site oriented than strictly music oriented. But I think I got my answer sooner.

It galls me when someone who is anonymous tries to come in here and dictate the rules. At least I took the trouble to join and take SOME kind of concrete identity for fellow mudcatters to recognize. I intentionally didn't respond to GUEST'S insult, and I think the thread bears me out. My main regret is that I did not read your thread first. Would have avoided the whole thing, and GUEST wouldn'thave had to endure my stupidity, and would have had ten extra minutes on his/her hands. It must have taken at least that long to come up with such an eloquent response. Apologies in advance if I'm SPAMMING you, M of H. But I've never SPAMMED an Englishman before. I feel better now, signed, MEMBER

Don't worry about anonymous GUESTS, they're a sort of virus we have on the Mudcat.

G'day BlueJay,

I reckon it's pretty hard for our GUEST to claim to be spammed by a thread that he (or, far less likely, she) chose to open!

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Obviously this anonymous Guest was an impersonator, not a true denizen of this locale. Actual, genuine Mudcatters are always sweet, thoughtful, kind, courteous, never give offense, use proper language, try to be helpful, communicate earnestly and sweetly, and always think of the other person's feelings first.

Anonymous Guests, on the other hand, are a bunch of fleabitten good-for-nothing hardassed bumfiddles who have nothing better to do than pull their foreskins over their heads and whistle through their crotches and are ill-bred contemptuous motherfuckers with shit for brains who wouldn't piss in your ear if yer brain was on fire.

As you can sort of tell, it's really us against them...oh, dear, who shall win?

McGrath, maybe some would like to remain figments of others imaginations. It is why, in some ways I still prefer radio plays or a good read to the cinema. I can use my mind to create all kinds of images. Although I will admit I have peeked at the photos on occasion and you were just as I pictured. Maybe sometimes it does help to know what gender you are speaking to, although perhaps it shouldn't.

Sometimes they're just ordinary sods who've pushed the wrong button, and don't know there way round yet. But otherwise I think Amos has them summed uop accurately enough.

As for the suggestion that people shouldn't feel free to ask sensible questions about how the site works, and should have to bother Max instead, that is daft. If one person is having a problem, so are other people, and an open posting means that the others can get advice as well - and we can all learn more about the resources available to us here, which are considerable and at times cobnfusing. Also advising newcomwers how to do stuff is a way of helping both us and them feel at home here.

Ah sweet mystery of Mudcat. I know what you mean, Metchosin. Perhaps if people dressed up and put on disguises or masks for the pictures sometimes...Bruce Wayne and Batman posting separately. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.(Though I think we might have that already...)

BlueJay,

Yours was a perfectly reasonable request & directed correctly. Although Max could have answered the question, had you sent a personal message to him, he is a busy man. Many of us could direct you to the Quick Links & were happy to do so. BTW, have any of you noticed that that was not a true "guest"? If so, s/he would not be offended at the idea of email spam, since only members (not guests) are on my site. Must have a Mudcat name to be included. Gentle reminder--when you ask to be included on my pages, please include your Mudcat name, w/ correct capitalization & spacing, so that I don't have to guess, do research, or contact you.

I only became aware of the phtots file recently. Half of me wants to preserve complete anonimity. Once your photo's up there, the myth - so to speak - is shattered! -Callie

Shove it Dave! I've contributed many songs, tunes and some money to Mudcat for years now, far more than you have. I prefer to remain anonymous on some posts for various reasons, and will continue to do so until this forum posts return e-mail addresses, as I've suggested more than once before.

I wonder which GUESTanon that was? I mean, some anons are ok, some aren't, and it's hard to tell the differenmce between people when they're invisible. Why people don't just use a pseudonym, when they want to preserve their anonymity is very puzzling.

Since anyone who is a member can be contacted by Personal Message, I'm not sure what the point of having email return addresses - unless the idea would be to stop people posting anonymously, which seems a strange request from someone who wants to be able to post anonymously.

Aw heck, all shall be made clear anon. I guess we could ALL ignore stuff that we weren't keen on and it would probably work. It's just too tempting for us all (yup, that's why I'm posting, I just CAN'T resist.)

Oh, stow it!

Guest, how many of the posts ARE music related here? How many posts have I read today that are jokes or HTML questions, or just plain chatter?

We appreciate your contributions...leave it at that, will you? Thank you.

I hope to see more pics up...but maybe there isn't enough PR on the subject? Just wondering, I just recently heard about it. There are newbies all the time...some subjects need to be refreshed on occasion.

Molly

Dear Anon,

I think when addressing the Ancient Mariner the term you are looking for but were too upset to find is "Stow it".

I am sorry if you felt your contributions were not properly acknowledged...but you can see how it is when you prefer to cloak yourself from recognition. This is of course entirely up to you. You mention "various reasons", which I imagine include fleeing from the law, owing money to someone on the list, experimental positions with Mudcatters that you don't want to own up to, wrongful possession of illegal tenor parts, and perhaps violations of posting conventions across State lines. Why don't you just confess?

A

"I prefer to remain anonymous on some posts for various reasons, and will continue to do so until this forum posts return e-mail addresses"

to me, this reads as "I will remain anonymous until I can no longer do so"

or an alternate translation "I prefer to remain anonymous so that I cannot be held responsible or answerable for my opinons"

I may be wrong, and I would hope I am wrong; but that is the way the above statement comes across to me.
