The Liberty Center in Eunice, Louisiana, is featuring a non Cajun group this evening that folks here at the Mudcat might want to tune in for ~~ Jay Unger, Mollie Mason, Ruth Unger, and Mike Merenda. The second group, Tee Mamou, I am not familiar with, but you can bet they are Cajun!

The show from the Liberty is carried live on KBON radio in Eunice, starting at 6PM CENTRAL TIME every Saturday night, and continuing until it is over, usually 7:30 or so. Click here for KBON and move on down the left side of the page to the big blue 101.1 FM button. SPECIAL NOTE! KBON broadcasts via your Windows Media Player, not RA! I get it through my MP3 player, due to the way I have my preferences set. I find the sound is of better quality and normally with fewer dropouts than RA.

Here is the current monthly schedule for the Liberty. I counted myself as very fortunate to be there for the show last Saturday night which featured The Magnolia Sisters and Blackie Fruge and the Hicks Wagon Wheel Ramblers ~~ an absolutely wonderful experience! Noted Cajun historian, Barry Ancelet, was the MC ~~ the show is conducted about 99% in French.

An upcoming show (actually two shows) to mark on your calendar is set for March 4, La Bande Feufollet at 2PM and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys at 6PM. If it were not Mardi Gras week, I would certainly consider going down for that one! Steve Riley and his band are among the premier Cajun groups of today. La Bande Feufollet is a wonderful group of young (make that really young) performers carrying on the Cajun tradition. None is older than 15, and most of the group are in the 11-12 age group ~~ their musicianship is exceptional for any age!
