Subject: John Martyn Song
From: GUEST,Daithi

Hello there people. Does anybody here have the words to John Martyn's I don't want to Know (about evil)?. I know bits of it, but a half a song is hardly good enough is it?. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Daithi.

I have the words but not the chords, and I barely recall how it goes. Coming right up...as soon as I go get my binder and get all typing-happy!

Subject: Lyr Add: I DON'T WANT TO KNOW (John Martyn)
From: Crowhugger
Date: 20 Feb 00 - 03:43 AM

Found it:

I DON'T WANT TO KNOW

I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love.

Sometimes it gets so hard to listen
Hard for me to use my eyes
And all around us gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps us hypnotized.

I don't want to…

Waiting for the planes to tumble
Waiting for the towns to fall
Waiting for the cities to crumble
Waiting till I see you grow.

I don't want to…

Ears are getting hard to listen
Hard for us to use our eyes
When all around us gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps us hypnotized.

I don't want to…

While I don't have the chords, IMHExperience John Martyn pretty much lives in a world of minor sevenths - Am7, Dm7 ad infinitum.

I hope this is a useful start.

Yo there Daithí.
Crowhugger, you beat me to it - well, I didn't see this until now.
Word perfect. As for the tuning; I do it DAFDAD and the way I worked it out it hardly differs from the chords in the 'No Little Boy' album.

John Martyn has a delightful habit of 'inventing' tunings to suit his purpose, which makes learning the guitar parts a bit like having a finished crossword in front of you where you have to work out the exact wording of the clues.
Oh many's the note we had in Eoin Moloney's in Scarriff, Co. Clare

Yikes, Brendy-O, how many D-strings does that tuning cost you in a week? Lemme grab my safety goggles whilst I tune D up to F. Does your guitar get grumpy about holding the tuning when the tensions are so different from standard tuning?

Aaaaaah. So thats why Brendy breaks so many strings.
I think his record is something like 7 in one gig !!
Greetings John
PS.(But he's one hell of a guitarist)

NO NO NO NO, Crowhugger!!!!!

Not the D UP to F The G DOWN to F.

You frightened me for a minute. You were supposed to read the string setup as you would be looking from above at the guitar.
It's too early in the morning for heart attacks!!!!

And thank you John for the kind words. Yeah, 7, 17 who's counting. It must be something to do with my lack of inhibition!!!!
B.

Gotcha, Bren -- I read it the other way. One of those cross-puddle differences?

I first knew John in Glasgow when he was still Ian McGeachy - he had to change it to get gigs in London. At that time he always had to play his songs in the same order, as he could not figure out what actual tuning he was in at any time but the start, only how to get from one song to the next. Incidentally, the early song The Gardeners is not his. It was written by Bill Lyons of Boston Mass, I sang it, John got it from me, and the record company would never correct the label!

From the above site

Dusty

Nico, two-headed Cuban giant,
He's looking with all of his eyes
At the colours that fall through the chestnut-tree night,
'Cause tomorrow in London they rise.
And don't you know that I'm dusty, too,
Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through...

The candy floss lady is looking at me
Though she never has seen me before.
She knows that I'm selling, let her buy all she has
And then maybe come back for some more.
And don't you know that I'm dusty, too,
Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through...

Roundabouts roundabout all closing down,
And the men of the goldfish are gone.
The cars and the arms are all tired now,
And the lights on the grass are down.
And don't you know that I'm dusty, too,
Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through...

Nico, two-headed Cuban giant,
He's looking with all of his eyes
At the colours that fall through the chestnut-tree night,
Because tomorrow in London they rise.
And don't you know that I'm dusty, too,
Don't you know that I'm dusty through and through...

The following is a fine site and has a lot of info on all the recorded work and has all the lyrics, even though it may not be obvious how to find them. The answer is to find out what CD the song you are interested in, is on. Then to find the title and then click on the 'pencil' icon.

Daithi - does this mean we're going to be treated to your dulcet vocal tones at Barrow or Lincoln, as well as your excellent whistle-playing?? :0)
