From: GUEST,JoAnn

I'm so excited to find this thread about the Sam Moon and this song. My grandmother was born and raised in Neil's Harbour then moved to Halifax where I was born.

I just recently found alot of relatives thru Facebook and am planning on visiting there soon to meet them ... I can't wait!

The ironic thing is I've seen Sam Moon sooooooo many times .. even at the Misty Moon when it was open. I had no idea he sang this song. Now I have to go find out the next time he's in Halifax and I'm gonna ask him to sing it.

Thanks guys!!!

I like Don MacIntyre's singing - interesting to note that "with a good drink in my hand" turns into "with a [or 'the'] good book in my hand" ...

Sam Moon plays occasionally at The Old Triangle in Halifax, these days.

A very beautiful but rugged and isolated fishing village.

Sam Moon is amazing. Wonderful voice. My favorite song is "The Girls of Neil's Harbour", it's so pretty. I sing it all the time. Sam Moon is a great guy. He's origianlly from a little community in Cape Breton called Arichat....a little French community, with a big Heart. Sam Moon, (which is just his stage name) his real name is Richard Boudreau. He and his other "Wing nut" buddy Rick Gautreau, still play every Fiday and Saturday here is Halifax. On Friday's at 5:30 pm they play at "Cheers" bar/pub on Grafton Street and on Saturday's it starts at 4:00pm at "Finbars Irish Pub" in Bedford, Sunnyside Mall. (If you are going to go see them....I highly recommend you go to the Saturday show...its awesome)

He still performs in the region. His style is more of a rock artist. The days of Moon Minglewood is still in people's memories. I believe Sam's stage act includes Hawaiian mau-mau (sp?) shirts and sandals. He may have changed it since.

Thanks George. Beautiful song. Heard it on a tape my in-laws brought back from a trip to Nova Scotia a few years back. Had thought about requesting the lyrics myself. Does anyone know anything about Sam Moon?

GIRLS OF NEIL'S HARBOUR
Sam Moon

Sail, sail away into another day
And I heard someone say it may be farther,
For the morning comes so soon;
Let's sing another tune
And we'll drink to the girls of Neil's Harbour

Sail, sail the coast to the one you love the most.
A seaman hates to boast but my heart's larger
For a girl named Jenny Lou
With the giant eyes of blue.
And I'm thinking of you in Neil's Harbour.

Oh, the waves they roll along and the sea she sings her song
And it's home where I belong beside the fire
With a good drink in my hand,
Just listening to the band
And I'm home once again in Neil's Harbour.

Sail, sail away into another day
And I heard someone say it may be farther,
For the morning comes so soon;
Let's sing another tune
And we'll drink to the girls of Neil's Harbour
And I think of the girls in Neil's Harbour.

I'll get back to you with the Chords stuff. It does show them.

I can get you the words. But first I'll have to find the Cape Breton Song Book, by Allister MacGillivray. It's a great bargain, about $32.00. Checked the price in Sydney when I Was up. Think it was a CD Depot that had it in stock.
