Subject: RE: Origins: Blue Eyes / I Still Miss Someone (J.Cash) From: GUEST,DrWord Date: 23 Sep 20 - 04:31 PM Thanks, Jeri, Joe ! An old favourite of mine, from well-worn vinyl, which I sang with my late brother Craig all the time. Mudcat & its contributors are a true treasure [above the BS line at any rate] and model of online sharing. keep on pickin’ Dennis |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Blue Eyes? / I Still Miss Someone From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Sep 20 - 11:29 AM Yeah, Jeri, it took me a while to figure out why such a variety of songs ended up in that other thread, but I can tell from the message titles that most probably they were initiated in that thread - I think it was a classic case of major thread drift. Somebody brought up the Johnny McEvoy recording of the song, and it went off on a tangent from there. I think we'll let this thread be the "origins" thread. I did a bit of a cleanup on the other thread so people will know what it's about, and I made sure we had correct and verified lyrics right at the top of this thread. That's why I had it marked for cleanup. Here is the Johnny McEvoy recording of the song: -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Blue Eyes? / I Still Miss Someone From: Jeri Date: 23 Sep 20 - 11:14 AM Let's get the correct lyrics into a thread. The powers that be have decided that the DT wouldn't be corrected. Generally, people should find the correct versions of songs in threads. There's a thread with lyrics here. (I don't have a clue why random other songs got transferred into it.) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Blue Eyes? / I Still Miss Someone From: GUEST,DrWord Date: 23 Sep 20 - 10:39 AM Let’s get the correct lyrics into the DT. Folk process hard at work here! Never heard Baez sing it, I don’t know if she modified the Cash words*, but posters have contributed half-remembered lines ... (*aside from the gender pronouns). Beautiful song, and today “At my door the leaves are falling, the cold wild winds will come ...” keep on pickin’ dennis |

Subject: RE: Blue Eyes From: Mountain Dog Date: 21 Feb 00 - 08:26 AM Yes, there is a third verse - which actually comes between the first and second verses listed in Amos' post. I go out to a party To try and find some fun But I wind up in a corner 'Cause I still miss someone. You can find Johnny Cash's version on his "Greatest Hits" package on Columbia. (LP, that is.) One of the first tear-jerkers I ever learned to play. |
Subject: RE: Blue Eyes From: sophocleese Date: 21 Feb 00 - 08:17 AM Its by Johnny Cash. I heard Katherine Wheatley and Cate Friesen sing it last Friday night. I think there might be a third verse. |

Subject: Blue Eyes From: GUEST,valere@hotmail.com Date: 21 Feb 00 - 02:03 AM I'm looking for the music and lyrics for a song that has the following lines: Oh I never got over those blue eyes Still I see them every where I miss the arms that held me, etc. |
Subject: RE: I stilll miss someone From: searcher45 Date: 24 Apr 99 - 02:12 AM COWPIE has the Cashes listed as the authors...once had a Linda Ronstadt album, on which she sang it. God, I loved that girl. Who would have ever left her? She wouldn't have missed me, cuz I'd be at her door every day. 'Course then she'd of pulled a Dan Hicks on me, by asking the musical question: "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away?" The Cash special was really great, and avoided all the smarmy tribute-type cliches. Someone sang "Miss Someone", but damned if I can remember who. TNT would always mention one Wyclef Jean in their promos. Not being up on current music, I wondered who in hell that was. Well, he was probably the highlight of the show, singing "Delia's Gone", as straight country blues, with a little rap thrown in. That combination may sound horrid, but it actually worked quite well. Subject: RE: I stilll miss someone From: Ferrara Date: 21 Apr 99 - 04:08 PM I found one of my (very) old song lists a week or two ago, and this song was on it. I thought, Of course! -- I used to love that song, how could I forget about it? So have started singng it again. There was a tribute to Johnny Cash on TV on Saturday 4/17, I was at a Jean Ritchie concert and didn't get home that day to tape it, but I figured I'd get out my J. C. albums and give him my own tribute. I still have a 45 of "I Walk The Line." |
Subject: RE: I stilll miss someone From: TequilaRon (inactive) Date: 20 Apr 99 - 08:37 PM Great song is right. Thanks for posting it Mark. I use to do it, but I just forgot about it. That's too good a song to just leave laying around. Wasn't it written by Jethro Burns? TequilaRon |
Subject: RE: I stilll miss someone From: Rick Fielding Date: 20 Apr 99 - 08:25 PM That is one helluva good song guys! Still singin' it after 30 years. |
Subject: Lyr Add: I STILL MISS SOMEONE (Johnny Cash) From: Mark Roffe Date: 20 Apr 99 - 08:18 PM I STILL MISS SOMEONE Words and music by Johnny Cash and Roy Cash, Jr. As recorded by Johnny Cash on "The Fabulous Johnny Cash" (1958)
At my door the leaves are fallin'; a cold wild wind will come.
I go out on a party and look for a little fun,
No, I never got over those blue eyes; I see them ev'rywhere.
I wonder if she's sorry for leaving what we'd begun. Note from Joe Offer: Mark's lyrics match this Johnny Cash Recording exactly: Later recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-Sj75QusZo |
Subject: I stilll miss someone From: John W. Date: 20 Apr 99 - 08:08 PM Anyone know the words to that Johnny Cash song "But I still miss someone" ? Something like, At my door the leaves are falling da da da da but I still miss someone. Oh I never got over her blue eyes. I see them everywhere... |
