Thanks for the greetings, everybody! I continue to be glad for this community of friends -- both those I know and those I hope to meet someday. My best birthday present of all was having this thread started by Karen K., and knowing that her presence here means she must finally be on the road to recovery after her long illness. Thanks, Karen, and much love to you. It's been a long haul!

And 'Spaw, you're a nosy ol' critter, but I'll tell you anyway. The magic number is 46. (I met Sandy and Caroline in Grand Rapids, Mich., when I was an impressionable 17 or so.)

Well, there I wuz, captured by these evil little Republican creatures. Musta been 2 or 300 of 'em. They had me all trussed up in a very anal retentive fashion, determined in their slavish, manifest destiny ravaged little minds that they would hold me through Kath's birthday and the Republican primary. And while they made me late, they couldn't keep me away. With a mighty roar, I cast off the chains of Calvinist iron and made fast my escape. It was close, but I got away, and you should see the other guy, Ma. So here I am, bruised but undaunted and ready with a Big Mick birthday hug for my dear friend Kath. I love ya, lady, you are the best. And I can't wait to sing The Widow's Walk accompanied by that Cello of yours. A huge Happy Birthday to you.

And to the rest of my friends here, I am involved in a VERY large project that is keeping me busy 7 days a week, and 16 or so hours a day.

Sandy, grab that woman of yers and git yerself back here. I need a cholesterol fix. And bring Karen, I want to double date with that woman again. She smiles and the world knows it.......LOL.

All you who haven't heard Margaret MacArthur's wonderful new CD, "Ballads Thrice Twisted," go find it (or e-mail her to find out how to order a copy directly). It's great! Art Thieme has expounded on the merits of this fine CD in another thread, but it's worth noting again. Many of the songs are from the Helen Hartness Flanders collection (see other threads on that subject). Terrific stuff.
