Recently Boo Hewerine was singing "The Man that I am" for BBC2s Mark Radcliffe at Whitby Folk week.
Anyone got the chords and lyrics?
Cheers

I've been kinda fiddling around on guitar trying to do it by ear and I think G-C-D seems to fit decently as a chord progression. Tell me what you guys think:

(G)I'd been back home in Ireland just to visit some(C) old (D)friends
But the days had gone by quickly, it was time to (C)leave (G)again
(G)And I'd had so many wild nights in the week or (C)two that (d)passed
I was almost glad that this would be the (G)last.

etc. etc.

(G)Back across the ocean to my(C)home away from (D)home
Glad to be returning but (C)sad to have to (G)go
(G)I'd like to find a way to be two (C)places at one (D)time
It's easy going back again but it's hard to (G) say goodbye

Guest - by "Ellis Island" do you mean "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears", written by Brendan Graham, and recorded by Sean Keane on "The man that I am"?

Kitty

Well, here you are. I copied it from somewhere, so the formatting may be a bit off. Sorry!

HOME AWAY FROM HOME
(Robbie O'Connell)

I'd been back home in Ireland just to visit some old friends
But the days had gone by quickly, it was time to leave again
And I'd had so many wild nights in the week or two that passed
I was almost glad that this would be the last.
But I didn't sleep at all that night, I stayed up til the dawn
Singing songs and playing tunes til everyone was gone
By then it was too late for me to go back home to bed
So I opened up another beer instead

CHORUS
Back across the ocean to my home away from home
Glad to be returning but sad to have to go
I'd like to find a way to be two places at one time
It's easy going back again but it's hard to say goodbye

And I had one bag too many just as I was set to leave
I was loaded down with bacon and with sausages and tea
And I couldn't find my ticket as I'm walking out the door
Til I emptied all my bags out on the floor.
On board the plane I sip a drink while waiting for the meal
Just trying to keep my head from knowing how my stomach feels
There's a baby right behind me making sure that I won't sleep
And the flight's too full to find another seat

And I'm trying to fill out customs forms but I can't find a pen
I'm swearing softly to myself I'll never fly again
There's a woman right in front of me keeps playing with the seat
And someone nearby never washed their feet
But I fall asleep at last just as the plane is touching down
And I age ten years just waiting for the bags to come around
But finally I make it home and I'm barely settled when
I'm already making plans to go again

The Song "Home away from home" is recorded by Sean Keane on the CD "All Hearts, No Roses". Cross Border Media Ltd. 10 Deerpark, Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Ireland. Copyright is: Robie O'Connell (Slievenamon Music) I have the CD but no words. Uwe Schmidt, Germany

I have the words but no background on the song at all, apart from an alternative title, 'Hard to say Goodbye'. It certainly isn't the same as 'Home Away From Home' by Tommy Sands.

As to your technical problem - all I can think of is, you have to call the thread up again which then should have your entry at the top. Otherwise, only the thread titles and the number of postings are shown, and you can only see whether yours has been added if you keep in mind the number of postings before you added yours. Any help? - Susanne

Much appreciate if anybody knows the whereabouts of text and chords.

The artist I heard singing this song was Séan Keane. I am interested generaly in his music, so if anyone knows of a "base" for his music, please let me know.

P.S. if you are into "mudcat", can you tell me why I cannot see my own entry after I have shut down and then open again.
