Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Feb 00 - 01:26 AM Hey, Sorcha, you don't have to beg, surely it hasn't come to that? |
Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: GUEST,ddw Date: 23 Feb 00 - 10:05 PM ...or maybe it has. Sorcha, maybe you have some more info that would be helpful — like where you got the lyrics, who sings it, etc. I thought I had a pretty extensive blues collection, but I've never heard of it. Or is it one of those misnamed "blues" that's not really a blues at all? I'm willing to do some poking around when I get home tonight, but more info would be helpful. cheers david |
Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: Sorcha Date: 23 Feb 00 - 10:42 PM I FINALLY found it--in a vocal/piano score, in Eb, but I can deal with that. Just in case you still want to know, lyrics are by Dave Ringle, music by Fred Meinken, pub. by Leo feist in 1921. Played by the Dixie Stompers and Firehouse Six plus 1, no doubt others. |
Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: GUEST,ddw Date: 23 Feb 00 - 10:48 PM Sorcha, that's great. Would you mind posting a URL for where you found it? I'm always interested in finding new songs. I've got one or two cuts by the Dixie Stompers on compilation albums, but I don't think WB is one of them. cheers, david |
Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: Sorcha Date: 23 Feb 00 - 11:09 PM This is it, but it is a bearcat to get to. I finally got there through the main uchicago page. If you don't get there, URL is eos.lib.uchicago.edu/score_images/Wabash_Blues. I saved it, and could e mail it to you, but it's pretty big. |

Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Feb 00 - 11:52 PM Neither the link nor the URL worked for me-- help? |
Subject: RE: Wabash Blues Melody From: ddw Date: 24 Feb 00 - 12:41 AM Actually, neither worked for me either, but don't bother with the e-mail. I've got the URL copied down and I'll play around with it when I have more time. If I can't get to it after a few more tries, maybe I'll send you a PM and ask for it or something. Thanx anyway. david |

Subject: ADD: Wabash Blues From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jun 02 - 12:49 PM I came across this and wondered why nobody had posted the lyrics. Now I know - too dang complicated. See the sheet music Sorcha linked to . -Joe Offer- WABASH BLUES (Dave Ringle & Fred Meinken) Nearly broken hearted since the day that I once started from my Wabash home, Indiana's sweet and it's a place that's hard to beat but then I longed to roam, My old homestead I now can see, I had a girl as sweet as could be, Now every day I'm so lonesome it's misery. CHORUS Oh, those Wabash Blues' I know I got my dues, A lonesome sould am I, I feel that I could die. Candle light that gleams, haunts me in my dreams I'll pack my walking shoes - to lose those Wabash Blues. I am just a mourner for each little nook and corner that I used to know, No more will I linger 'cause I see a warning finger pointing where to go There's no reason why I should stay, I'll take a hint and beat it away, Old memories bring recollections the while I say: CHORUS PATTER CHORUS Through the sycamore the candle light is burning bright Memory brings the scent of new-mown hay to me each night I am starting for that spot no need to ask me when I'll be leaving hoofprints t'ward the old home road again. 'Xpect to see the moonshine on the Wabash any night Seems that such a picture's bound to turn me to the right Making up my mind to see that home so far away But until that happens here's the best that I can say: lyrics by Dave Ringle & music by Fred Meinken Copyright 1921, Leo Feist, Inc. from sheet music available online at the University of Chicago, www.lib.uchicago.edu filename[ WABBLUES JRO |
