Here we go again, This time, there are no lyrics, to my knowlege. This is a really lovely tune, that I really want to find the sheet music for. Have written the artist who recorded it, with no response. Anyone out there know this? It IS traditonal, probably 18th century. Thanks, all

Oh yeah, definitely french! Got it off of a Glenn Morgan CD, Borders no More. It is loverly on the Hammered dulcimer, has 3 parts. Am pretty sure that it is indeed a traditional tune. Thanks, all

Are you absolutely sure you have the title correct? I found the CD for sale with all the tracks listed; there is a Valse Pour les Petites Juenes Filles, and on the CD "Following Wind" a tune called "Rose Tree" but nothing that combines Rose and Fille. If you could send me a MIDI or find me a MIDI I could print it, then ABC format it for you.

Bless you, Sorcha, Okay, i was wrong...it is not off of Borders no More, it's off of "A following wind", Glenn Morgan. And the proper name is La Fille de Rose, no 'la'. Ooops..should be more careful when i am begging for help! Anyway, i really appreciate the help. thank you so much!

There was not a track (advertised) with this title, the only "rose" on that CD was "The Rose Tree" Still????

Hi there, Nope, it is on the following wind CASSETTE, perhaps for a change, the bonus was on tape instead of CD. Hmmm....And no, it's not The Rose Tree, i play that one. Thanks for the effort!

I've tried all the obvious Tune Search routines for ABC and MIDI tunes. A shot in the dark ...it's not from Offenbach(A la Cac-Can)is it? Regards, John

John o John, where are you to elucidate? Sounds like you know more about searching than I do. Come back!

I think he means that you might also try checking out some of the light opera/ artsong composers of the likes of Offenbach, who wrote Orpheus in the Underworld, which included the famous Can-Can tune.  They were quite partial to titles like "la fille de rose" and so on.  I've had a look round some search engines myself -always interested in French material- but the only references I could find led right back to Glenn Morgan's record.

Malcolm

Malcom, thanks for the enlightenment! Will try searching in that direction, as well as begging faithful, wonderful Mudcatters.

Long shot here, but some times people get names wrong-could the song actually be "La Vie en Rose"?

Wish it was, would be alot easier to find! I've got about half of it down by ear, but has a really different beat, and can't quite get the rest. Will have to hassle Glenn Morgan at the Ren Faire this summer, and see if he will relinquish the source.

Boy, I was with M. Ted. I know Edith Piaf sang a song called LA VIE EN ROSE.......
Do you know if it is European, Canadian? Is it a waltz, jig, reel?

French. Slow. And i couldn't really give you the beat. Maybe... 1,2,3,4, 1,2 1,2,3,4 1,2
Part B rather lively. Just can't get it off of the tape!
thanks for the response, all

I tried a Google search and found a reference to the recording you mentioned, but could not get the sample to play. It's in about the 60th page or so if you type in "La Fille De Rose". I'm sorry I accidently deleted the page when I tried to open it. I am not familiar with that melody. You might have luck if you picked up where I left off. I'll be back......
