Our other thread had gotten quite long and I believe most if not all new members listed there have been welcomed.
(Just click here to go back to the Feb. 22 New Members thread, but please do your posting here in the new thread.)

Self-introductions and intro's by new members' friends seemed to wrok equally well, so once again I would invite you to use this thread to let us all welcome you to our little party!

I've got one to start us off--

Everyone please join me in welcoming new member Chuck Hemrick, who I have been having a great e-mail correspondence with while getting his Mudcat join-up problems squared away with Joe Offer. (You may also have noticed that a CD from the Chuck Hemrick Family Singers recently went up for auction.) Here's what Chuck had to say about himself:

I am 63 years old....been playing and singing old-time Country and gospel music since childhood. Sang with my mom and dad and older sister, in Winston-Salem NC in the 50's, as the Hemrick Family Singers. For the last 10 years I have been performing with my own family as the Hemrick Family Singers. Wife Peggi, on bass fiddle...daughter Karen, on guitar...son Kevin on mandolin...I play the Appalachian mountain lap dulcimer and guitar. Our music can be heard in the Piedmont area of NC, over WPAQ radio in Mt.Airy, NC, also WBRF FM in Galax, VA. At night. There are several stations throughout the US playing our stuff...also stations in Canada, France and Germany.... We do the old-time music...sorta old-time Carter Family style...using the dulcimer like Momma Maybell used the autoharp... oh yes, we all sing too!!! We have a new CD coming out...copies being made as I type here, it's a mixture of songs from our 3 cassette tapes made over the last 8 years at Heritage Studios in Woodlawn, Virginia. Bobby Patterson is the man in charge. He's been recording folks for many years, since the sixties. There are 18 songs on the CD.... I'll be happy to get one to you ...send me an address.... CD's may take another week before ready to send out...have to do the graphic stuff!!

Welcome the newbies, welcome them here.
There are so many newbies, I think we should cheer!
We met quite a few in the 22 thread,
I wrote some a Praisepoem (my fingers went dead).

I'd like to catch up, and I'll try to brief,
Since I know that verbosity can cause a "Good Grief!"
Besides, I've gone fishin', off writing a grant,
Hope sketching you quickly will lend the right slant.

I think I missed Troll when a newbie myself,
Thinking Troll sort of timeless and a nice kind of elf.
But I guess that a culvert (and not on a shelf)
Is where Troll of the Mudcat's been keeping itself.

(These poems, BTW, are a bit tricky for me--
You don't always say if you be she or he!)

Then there's JL of Ozland if right I recall,
Who has posted a word here or there to you all.
Hails from the Ozland where no kangaroos dwell,
Said Rolling in the Pantry was too tough to sell.

Now Tasmanian Shimbo may not be quite new,
But I haven't yet met Shimbo, so-- hi to you!
Same with the doesterr, his name he's explained,
But I'll read it Doe Stirrer, if it's all just the same.

And Metchosin-- whose image has been made clear to me
When I was directed to visit her tavern psyche.
I've already said, "Hey, I met yo sin!"
"Few are Metchosin," I was told, with a grin.

Now I mentioned the Sergeant (the Irisher one),
But only in passing, and while on the run.
He told Chocolate Pi he was quite an old fart.
Just where should a proper Praisepoem 'bout that start?

And when did the plumber arrive? Can you tell?
A member of "Wee Harbour Grudges" (sounds swell!)
This group sings (I'm told) in close harmony,
But the plumbers I know only know PVC.

Pixie signed in a guest here last week,
But says s/he is here for more than a peek.
"Not a musician or singer" s/he brags--
But isn't that usually a talent red flag?

And another new 'Catter-- RangerRoger he's called--
Been reading our funnies so much that he bawled!
Well that only happens to people who start
By getting to know us by our threads on Cat Fart!

I know Sorcha brought Bud (and God knows who more!)
And he's got his own thread! And welcomes galore!
I don't think I know him too well just as yet--
But an eventual Praisepoem for him's a good bet.

And now Chuck (of the Hemricks) has swept through my heart
With his e-mails, his CD, and his great big warm heart.
And he plays all the music that I love the best--
A Mudcatter now, he belongs with the rest.

Praise all the newbies, praise them with me,
For flying with Mudcat, and not MTV.
Newbies, you're welcome, and do jump right in!!
You must post! Post once more! And then? Post again!

Welcome to the madhouse Chuck and sharpen your pencil(or finger). Praise, that's the shortest fishing trip I've ever heard of and the longest poem. Fish eat fish food; they don't listen to rhyme (as far as I know).

I want to thank Praise for the praise.I'm like Chuck,I've never seen my name in a poem before(a few songs best left unsung).I live in beautiful downtown Smelterville Idaho with Shredder the cat who doesn't fart as long as I feed him Science Diet.I play guitar and sing and have been on the staff of the Strawberry Music Festival for 15 years.Which is where I met Joel Mabus who saw me with a box of baking soda sealed with duct tape and remarked that baking soda is the chemical equivalent of duct tape.I look forward to a lot of fun with the rest of the Mudcatters where the only thread creep I've seen is gargoyle. rr

Well Praise, for someone out fishin' you've outdone yourself. Welcome to all.....and Chuck, DON"T SHOUT!!! Just a joke.....Caps are generally reserved for a bit of point making when we argue around here or for some emphasis. But if your caps key is stuck, don't worry about it.

I hope you all find the 'Cat an agreeable place and will join in whenever and wherever you choose. This place has a lot of intelligent, erudite, knowledgable, talented, an very friendly folks........I'm not any of them, but what the hell......Search some old threads in the forum search (pull down menu under Quick Links) and also type in some user names and see what they have had to say. Gets you kinda' familiar with the joint. Photos, e-mail addys, and a locator are on "bbc's Mudcat Resources"..also on the pull down. Tune into Mudcat radio on Wednesday Nights at & PM eastern US (there will be a hot link on the main page when its on the air, you need RealPlayer.

And of course there's the database, the DT (Digital Tradition) which is MORE than superb. We talk about things other than music, but it was the music that brought us here and the music binds us together. Enjoy the threads and I hope to know all of you better soon. You on the other hand will probably do well to NOT get to know me, although, as I'm one of the 'denizens' of the joint, you probably will. Best to all and again...

Hi,

A friend I pick with sometimes told me about Mudcat. Now, that's a friend!!

Been lurking for a bit, jumped into one of the threads briefly.

All the quick minds are a bit intimidating, but the absolute politeness of most people is what keeps me coming back.

I've been trying to pick guitar some since I was a little girl, about 50 years now, I guess. My inspirations were Roy Rogers; an uncle who let me stand between him and the guitar and look over the top, and a very patient friend, who was sure I'd never learn, but tried to teach me anyhow (thanks, Peg).

I drifted into, I guess, Appalachian/Ozarks "folk." As for Roy Rogers -- I never did learn to play guitar effectively while riding a horse at a gallop.

Look forward to reading more insights, silliness, and just stuff.

Hello everyone, my name is Jimmy I was brought up in Scotland, I'm 2nd gen Irish and now reside in Leeds in England. I'm a very enthusiastic folkie, I love singing, I write my own songs, I'm learning to fingerpick guitar, I enjoy especially though the genuine and interesting friendships it brings, my philosophy is " Drink beer - sing songs - be friendly ". nowt wrong with that is there. I've only recently bought this pc and discovered Mudcat but I can sense that this could become addictive - but in a nice way of course. I am a care worker, I help homeless people, and I'd like to share this poem with you which I wrote, as a wee present to you all - It is about a women who was put away in an institution in 1957/58 as a punishment for concieving a baby out of wedlock, it is called The Single Mother, I tried putting a tune to it but I think it is better orated,I hope you like it.

A woman was buried today, The good people went to the grave, Down on bended knees, They prayed for clemency, And morilised, As she lay dead.

But she was free at last, From her awfull past, From the stigma that ruined her life, From the mental shame, From those who named, Her child a bastard as she gave birth.

She suffered in silence, Alone, In an institution, Where she was thrown, She was only a child, A girl of fifteen, And such a bloody injustice, Should never have been.

Hi all you newbies, I have been off line for a couple of weeks with a sick motherboard but she has had a few tests and transfusions and was realeased from ciber hospital last night. It's great to see new members posting and I hope you will all stay with us for a long long time. I notice cujimmy comes from Leeds, so why don't you come along to the Jug at Chapel Hadlesley some Wedsnesday night and meet a few catters face to face and play a few tunes with us. The regulars are myself, Windy B, Eric the Viking, Skipjack, Mouldy, Selby, Big Phil, Mike Cahill, and last week we had Patrich joining us, we sometimes also see Eric Symonds, Sam Pirt, Graham Pirt, and Ian Stephenson. So if you can make it we would all love to see you. Just get on to the M62 heading East from Leeds cross the A1 and come off on the A19 towards Selby, after a couple of miles you will cross the river Aire and you are in Chapel Hadlesley turn right at the garage and the Jug is on your right. We are there every Wednesday night around 9 o'clock. This invite is also open to all other catters who live in the area or are just passing through. Cheers Bill

hello to all.. what an interesting group of people here.my name is Sharon and my pal Andy referred me to this board of info for lyric inquiries.I got to reading some of your mail and thought i would introduce myself.I was raised with my Scottish heritage in full bloom via my father.he's a piper and my brothers have followed suit.i didnt care to learn an instument so i took up singing.ive been doing this since i was a kid..nothing proffessional..just good fun at pubs and at festivals,and ceilidhs.im due to sing some traditional irish and scottish songs at my dads upcoming wedding..and will have the welcomed help of my friend Andy who is a grand fiddler.i am always interested in learning new tunes..if any of you have an interest in passing along some new or old lyrics that are meaningful to you in this particular area in english or gaelic..i would love to hear from you. cheers, Sharon

Hi all,

I've been around for a few months, and I'm beginning to feel at home.

I started by bookmarking the Digitrad so that I could look up lyrics whenever I felt the need, and eventually noticed the threads. When I posted to one, I discovered that old friends Marymac and Barry Finn were here.

I can't claim to be much of a musician, although I do play pennywhistle and bones. I'm a dance caller, and I hope that I'll get a chance to call a dance for you someday.

Hello again I'm back from work - Scottish shortbread is a nice alternative to cookies - mix equal amounts of flour, caster sugar and butter, roll the mixture about 1inch thick and then place in baking trays and then bake at 200oc for 25mins, then sprinkle with caster sugar

I'd like to introduce a friend who just joined the Mudcat. She's signed in as rainbow.I know her from the Strawberry Music Festival and we spend a lot of time e-mailing to each other.
I sent her the site and told her about the duct taped cat farts rattling about in thight bhodrans.
Of course she had to join to get in touch with me as my cyber-life is now being consumed by Mudcatism.

thanks for the welcome rangeroger... and hello folks! and really, after what he said, i did pause for a few days -- wondering what in the world he was talking about...

i've spent hours, literally hear, i mean here. mostly because this power mac 5300/100lc is so pathetically slow. and because there were some threads quite interesting -- and very helpful and useful. found some lyrics i'd been seeking. and btw... anyone know any bigfoot/sasquath/yeti songs? doing a video project and needing some. the only one i can think of is steve spurgin's song. and i can't even find it! got to search this weekend.

i'm a long time folk d.j. type person, formerly performed extensively -- a group called "the yellow autumn minstrels" -- specializing in really olde songs. produce for pbs and npr in northern california. remember a tv show called "stage 9" ????

i think you are all quite wonderful, sometimes very silly, and full of a great huge archive of knowledge. thanks for your help... and whatever i can do... i'll try!

i don't have the urge for going, but i better let you all go... its late late late...

That's about the best I can do, folks--the extent of my talent, right there. LOL Actually, Praise found me wandering aimlessly in another thread. I was alone, cold, hungry and unwashed. She/he (sorry--don't know which!) kindly took me in, provided food, a shower--and this FABULOUS dress! hahaha I'm glad I found you folks. From what I've seen, you're a fun, smart, well-mannered, whacky bunch. Although I've already gotten into a few scuffles out back, that was fun, too!
