Subject: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 03 Mar 00 - 09:44 AM I know you all like to post to lists (Best, worst etc.) So here's one: What tune is buzzin' round your head today? I always seem to have a tune in there, often, annoyingly, one half-remembered then I aske you all to help me with.[I'm NOT asking for help with these examples] Last week it was the Kweskin Jug band version of "I'm satisfied with my gal"; earlier this week it alternated between Rick Fielding's "Margins of my neighbourhood" and Frank Hamilton's "Michigan Water". Today I woke up to Dave van Ronk's "If you were a friend of mine" and this afternoon this was supplanted by Johnny Silvo and Diz Disley's version of "CC Rider". All these at work or in the car or doing chores without any music on. Can't post more, must be time for my medication in the NYCFTTTS, or...am I not alone? RtS |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Áine Date: 03 Mar 00 - 09:49 AM Excellent thread for a Friday, Roger! This morning I woke up 'Carrickfergus' going around in my head. I bit of wishful thinking, perhaps? Whereas yesterday, it was 'Put Your Little Foot' -- go figure. -- Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: MMario Date: 03 Mar 00 - 09:55 AM morning has broken, but the lyrics that keep going through my head are "Morning is broken, please someone fix it" |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Little Neophyte Date: 03 Mar 00 - 10:06 AM Hi Roger, here is the tune buzzing around my head......... Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: GUEST,Neil Lowe Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:12 AM ..had to return something this morning to a woman named Martha. Consequently, Martha My Dear from the Beatles' "White Album" has been rattling around in that otherwise infinitely vacuous space. Hell, it's Friday and I'm already looking forward to a rewarding sit-down at the kitchen table with my box and some pre-recorded tunes to play along with. Happy weekend to one and all. Regards, Neil |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Skipjack K8 Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:22 AM My tune of the third milennium is still "the Pinch of Snuff (AKA THe four seasons)". Dang, it's a hard tune on the box, but I'm peeling back the layers slowly. Incidentally, talking of good friends we've lost, where's Garg these days? Perhaps the healing circle worked, and he got better. Hope so. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: jeffp Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:32 AM This reminds me of a game my sister and I play when we go to Irish Week at Augusta. Whenever we run into each other, we point and say, "Name that tune!" The other has to name the tune in their head at that moment. Right now, my tune is "The Britches with the Stitches." jeffp |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Mbo Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:40 AM Well, it's only 11:40am and I've already had in my head "10538 Overture" by ELO, "Gardyne Castle" by William Jackson, "Molendinar" by William Jackson, "The Wild Geese" by The Chieftains and "A' Ghrian" from "The Pilgrim" by Shaun Davey. --Mbo |

Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Rick Fielding Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:50 AM Hi, Skipjack...He's here..in spades! Just look for threads where katlaughing is likely to reiterate her political views, and GG will be right there, AK 47s a blazing! Jeez, thanks Roger. It's an honour to be buzzin' round your head. My head is filled with the tune "Wabash Blues" (done by the Delmore Bros.) this mornin' and how I may be able to adapt it tin a new project. Great song! Rick |

Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: GUEST,Julie Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:56 AM I'm Currently stuck with the Wounded Huzzar. What I find realy irritating is when you've been at an Irish Step dancing contest. Not only do you have the tues stuck in your head but you also have the steps echoing as well! ( Usually Hornpipes !) Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Wesley S Date: 03 Mar 00 - 05:23 PM I can't seem to get a song by the Austin Lounge Lizards called "Teenage Immigrant Welfare Mothers On Drugs" out of my head. It came to mind while I was reading the "Rant" thread about the recent shooting in Michigan. An unrelated song is an uptempo bluegrass style version of "Nearer My God To Thee" that my group is working on. Tonight my wife and I are going to Dallas to see an exibit of articles off of the Titanic. I'll probabally think of the song there as well. Even tho the band probabally never played it as they sank. Who knows? |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Mbo Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:00 PM Wesley, did the moron jerk John Rocker write that song? --Mbo |

Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Wesley S Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:13 PM Mbo - No but it does poke fun at his way of thinking. The song blames everything on "those people" - whoever those people are. It's a funnny song - check it out. The band is too much fun if they ever come to your town. I think they have a website - www.austinloungelizards.com |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Wesley S Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:15 PM Mbo - I may have misunderstood. I'm not sure who wrote "Nearer My God To Thee" |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Mbo Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:45 PM No, no, you got it right the first time. I'll have to check it out! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Jo Taylor Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:50 PM I don't know what it is - it's always one of those. You know, you play a tune in a session and ask "What was that, then?". Answer: "******** if I know...". Mind worms, mind worms... Jo |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Jo Taylor Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:51 PM And I can't count asterisks... Jo |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Wesley S Date: 03 Mar 00 - 06:59 PM Mbo - I just checked the website and you can click onto the lyrics - it's from the "Live Bait" recording. This band is just too funny. www.austinloungelizards.com |

Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Liz the Squeak Date: 04 Mar 00 - 02:00 AM Squirreling (as this annoying phenomenomenom is called) in my head this week - all courtesy of a git at work who bought a new mobile phone that plays about 90 tunes: Eine Kleine nachtmusik, the Ride of the Valkyries (my theme tune, should I ever get that famous, still looking for the tin wunderbra), Scot Joplin's Entertainer, and the bloody Warsaw Concerto. Thanks to Radio 2, I have the haunting refrain "here's a quarter, call someone who cares", and from Spike Milligans' war diaries, the bloody Warsaw Concerto and "Lay thar piss tub darn" (Italian wartime pronunciation of lay that pistol down). The worst moment came when I started singing 'What a friend we have in Jesus' in the filing range, sleazy blues style complete with Fats Domino bah-bah bah bah-bah bah baaaaah riffs after each 8 bars.....
Help, nurse, the screens!!! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: rangeroger Date: 04 Mar 00 - 02:34 AM As I read this thread almost every song mentioned did a sound byte in my head.Who knows what I'll dream of tonite? Lately, because of the Tom Rush threads "Urge for Going" is at the top of the list. But also some things we been playing at my church. "Trading my Sorrows" and "Your Love is Extravagant" by Darrell Evans rr PS."tin wunderbra"? I'd love to see it. |

Subject: Lyr Add: I'M SATISFIED (Gaither Vocal Band) From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Mar 00 - 11:29 AM I'M SATISFIED (Music is a kinda jazzy western swing vamp, lead singer with backup/echo from the rest of the quartet... It's the Gaither Vocal Band, sounding like Manhattan Transfer.) I'm satisfied (satisfied) Yes satisfied (with Jesus). Said He would be my comfort (yeah!), Said He would be my guide, well, well-- I looked at my hands-- my hands were new, I looked at my feet, and they were too! Ever since that wonderful day My soul's been satsified. We're satisfied (so satisfied) Yes satisfied (with Jesus!) Said He would be my comfort (yeah!), Said He would be my guide, well, well... And I've lost the tape with the rest of the verses, and it goes around and around because the tune actually does too and doesn't actually end! My step daughter and I can fall into this any time, any place, with hand/foot motions, the whole thing. It lurks just below consciousness whenever we're together. |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Caitrin Date: 04 Mar 00 - 02:55 PM Well, it seems to be a "rock" day today. Yes's "All Good People" has been stuck in my head all day. |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Mbo Date: 04 Mar 00 - 03:03 PM Liz, I'm glad to know there's someone else out there who likes the Warsaw Concerto by Richard Addinsell. That was one of the pieces that got me back into classic music when I was 15--even thought it technically isn't classical music! Ha ha, you a Travis Tritt fan too? --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: kendall Date: 04 Mar 00 - 05:03 PM Today it's Dark Island by the Swedish nightingale (Caroline Paton) |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: GUEST,The Beanster Date: 05 Mar 00 - 05:18 PM Too funny! Now, thanks to you guys, I'm sure I'll have some of YOUR tunes spinning around in my head for days to come... lol But lately, Mozart's "Dies Irae" from Requiem has been haunting me non-stop, so anything not sung in Latin will be a welcome relief! Thanks for the "sound bytes" (that someone else mentioned). From your brain, to mine... |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Hardiman the Fiddler Date: 05 Mar 00 - 05:44 PM For me, all winter long it has been the "Road to Lisdoonvarna" the version in 6/8 time! Just when I think I've finally managed to get it out, it comes sneaking back in there, especially when I'm headed to work. HTF |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Callie Date: 05 Mar 00 - 06:18 PM HELP!!! This morning when I woke up it was "Plastic Jesus", but now it's melting into a wierd medley with Don McLean's cowboy song (after reading that thread). If I'm in a traffic jam He don't mind if I say "damn!" One man's work is another man's play Oh god how I worked my life away. MEDICATION PLEASE!! --Callie |
Subject: RE: BS: Tunes buzzin' round my head From: Osmium Date: 05 Mar 00 - 06:31 PM Well for me its been a song that starts And each and every single day I promise I will kneel and pray The chorus is A ship to the shore,a key to the door A place on the last bus going home A ship to the shore, a key to the door A candle in the widow and the welcome But I'd dearly love to know what its called!
