I think this was written by a Washington DC area songwriter about 20 years ago....I don't know where you heard it,(I haven't heard it for maybe 15 years!)- but I will ask around here and see if there are any recordings of it...it is a neat song

This sounds remarkably like 'Chicken on a raft'. Which is a modern British sea shanty writen by Cyril Tawny a Sub-Mariner cum folk singer still popular on the club and festival circuit.

'Chicken on a Raft' is already on the database under this title.

Got it!! The author is Jeff Deitchman... I have a home video of him doing it at a local festival 9 years ago..I haven't seen him around in several years, and I have to think about the propriety of copying the tape...but I can get the words for sure...(I hate the murky depths of copywrite laws and such!)Do you 'know' the tune? Where did you hear it??

Bill D., you rock! Thank you. I heard the song performed by Magpie (accompanied by jaw harp) over 15 years ago -- a duo also from DC if I'm not mistaken. Yes, I do know the tune.

Please don't copy the tape, but I'd love to have the words. Do you know if Jeff Deitchman has any tapes or CDs out with this song?

Of course! Magpie... (Jeff does it with jaw harp, too!)I talked to our folk DJ, Mary Cliff, & she thinks there may be a tape..& that Jeff is teaching here in the DC area....I will see if I can locate him....(boy , there are a few hard to understand spots the way he does it) if I find Jeff Ill email the details, if I have to transcribe the tape it may take a bit)
