Help: Where is Debby McClatchy?

I haven't followed the folk scene as I once did, and I wonder if any 'cats can steer me toward any website or source of information on DM. I own a nice dulcimer built by one of her husbands, who once lived and built fine instruments in the mountains of PA under the name of Sunhearth.

I don't know where she is, I know she used to go every year to a songwriters' contest and enter her songs and help cook too. I think in the southwest. I saw her at a house concert in Illinois way long ago and have two of her excellent LP's, one of which includes her unforgettable melody for The Cremation of Sam McGee as well as another hysterical Service piece, Blasphemous Bill McKie I think, and a haunting piece about inhumanity... and my tunrtable is tres brokanne... and I never conveted her to tape!

If you find her, pls tell her I loved her work and would love to hear more, concert tour info, etc.

She was over in England last year, in great form, and had a great time at Sidmouth and Fylde (and so did everyone who heard her). And she sang the Cremation odf Sam McGee.

She caters the Washington Getaway every year, and other similar celebrations of the folk world. (She built a six-foot high hot fudge sundae for a wedding we attended some years ago! Sure beat the heck out of the usual decorative, but rarely edible, white cake.) Charlie Baum will be able to supply her current general location, which I think is still in Pennsylvania, although he will probably refrain from posting her actual address without her permission. She's still a regular touring artist, too. In fact, she did a concert for the Pinewoods Folk Club in New York just a couple of nights ago (March 3rd, 2000, since this sort of thing gets archived).

I was at Debby's concert in NYC 2 nights ago. I can only tell you that it was simply wonderful; the best I've attended in some time. I had a few words with Debby, whom I first met about 1973 - she lived in New York for years. She mentioned that she lives in central Pennsylvania.

If the recordings don't prove to be available, I'll sing 'em or whistle 'em on tape just to spread them out for people to enjoy, unless DM says no. The melodies are simple, but so perfect for the scansion and mood of the poems that you have to hear them, then they are permanently a part of your brain.

Of course the way she does 'em is most of the point tho.

When she cooked at the San Francisco Folk Music Club's "Camp Harmony" at New Year's, Debby was selling two CD's, Light Years Away and 'Til the Good Times Come. Her "West Coast Representative" is a sometime Mudcatter. I sent him an e-mail to wake him up and ask him how we can get her CD's.

THANKS SO MUCH for all the good info, and I'm SO glad to hear Debby is still touring (you'd think I could've properly spelled her name?!) PRAISE, I might have even been at the same house concert (Lindems "pub" of Rockford?), which would be too wild! I may have her confused with some other nice lady, but I'm pretty sure it was her that had a gig at Old Songs, 3, 4 years ago, and in the course of a daytime solo workshop set mentioned once, many years ago, having been hired as a topless folksinger act in a club in California, when the "topless bar" thing was big. The audience uniformly demanded a flashback, as it were, but she declined....

Admired her from a distance for years and finally met her at Sidmouth some years ago when she was dueting with Roger Watson. I think that association ended somewhat acrimoniously but not sure of the details.

I am an old friend of Debby McClatchy and Mike Martin but have lost touch over the last 10 years or so. I live in central PA and went to lots of Sunhearth events. I sure missed her at the X-mas/New year campout of the SFFMC. She is definitely a key inspiration for me to take up the banjo. I managed to crank out Pastures of Plenty, Waterbound (Powell), and Buffalo Hunters at the workshops but I (and probably everybody else) would have prefered to listen to her. Come back to camp Debby, you were missed. No camp burn ups this year, please. Gopherit

Debby is a great asset to Camp New Harmony, maybe more now than she was as a cook. People just love her daily old-time sessions. We didn't have enough room for all our sessions and all our people this year at Camp Monte Toyon, but we're working right now on securing a camp that should fit our needs very well.
We knew Monte Toyon wasn't adequate, but it was all we could get on such short notice.

Haven't been in touch with Debby since some years ago at Indian Neck when she'd helped me clarifying some lyrics in a song I'd learned from one of her recordings.

Tom and I met her in the early 1990s at one of the Sun Hearth gatherings.

In addition to Camp New Harmony (the SF Folk Club New Years retreat - and I missed it this year, so I didn't realize Debby wasn't there), I can always count on seeing Debby at the CBA (California Bluegrass Association) music camp and festival in Grass Valley in mid-June - she is always at the camp as a volunteer, leading jams and teaching one or two afternoon elective workshops.   

She also shows up occasionally at the CBA Golden Oldtime Campout in late August at Lake Sonoma, near Healdsburg & Cloverdale.
