Subject: gaberlunzie From: GUEST,nick Date: 06 Mar 00 - 08:59 AM I love hearing what people have to say and think about different musicians. Gaberlunzie (Gordon Menzies and Robin Watson) are among my very favorite singers/musicians/bands and I am very hard pressed to find anyone who has even heard of them (keep in mind I live in Colorado). Thoughts, thoughts, I must have your thoughts. Give me a favorite Gaberlunzie song, such as Bannockburn. Nick |
Subject: RE: gaberlunzie From: kendall Date: 06 Mar 00 - 09:15 AM They are also friends of mine. 10 years ago Gordon set up a tour of Scotland for me, and it was one of the highest high points of my life. I guess if I had to pick a favorite song, it might be Shehallion. |
Subject: RE: gaberlunzie From: Susanne (skw) Date: 06 Mar 00 - 05:43 PM Nick, I have heard them in Scotland only a few years ago, and I must admit I wasn't impressed. It wasn't a bad night, just not as good as I'd been led to believe it would be. Maybe it wasn't so much the music as their behaviour. When you're nearing sixty and your hair has turned white you shouldn't try to pretend you're still in your twenties! There are bands I much prefer. Having said this, I have a couple of their recordings (Wind & Water, Time & Tide; Freedom's Sword) and I quite like them. - Susanne |
Subject: RE: gaberlunzie From: John Nolan Date: 07 Mar 00 - 07:42 AM I knew Gordon and Robin years ago (the late 60s) when we were all in Glasgow Police Force together. They left, under some pressure, after writing a song which failed to condemn the IRA with sufficient vigor, as I recall. Later Gordon bought a pub called the Duff Arms in Ayr. Some good nights were to be had there. |
