RED RUBBER BALL
(Paul Simon)

I should have known you'd bid me farewell
There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well
Now I know you're not the only starfish in the sea
If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me

And I think it's gonna be all right
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

You never care for secrets I confide
For you I'm just an ornament, somethin' for your pride
Always runnin', never carin', that's the life you live
Stolen minutes of your time were all ya had to give

And I think it's gonna be all right
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

The story's in the past with nothin' to recall
I've got my life to live and I don't need you at all
The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
I bought my ticket with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend

And I think it's gonna be all right
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
Oh, oh, oh, I think it's gonna be all right
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

You know how sometimes you feel like a total doofus? I sure do this morning. It came to me, on my way to work, that when I said this "the style of it and its era (late 50's-early 60's) seems much more compatible with my understanding of Paul Simon" in my post above I was thinking not of Paul Simon, but of Neil Sedaka. Singer/songwriter, last name begins with "S"--major short circuit in the brain. So, no, I'm not totally clueless, but I guess the mind slips up occasionally. Whoops!

Gary T- though I think Blue Jay may have it on this one, the song you are referring to was (I believe) popularized by Bobby Vee (not to be confused with Bobby Vinton), although I am not sure who wrote it.

I know someone who has the 45, so if indeed this is the song Guest 'J' is looking for, I can check to see if the author is credited on the disk. I can possibly give a listen and figure out the chords as well.

BlueJay, the chorus you posted is to "Red Rubber Ball", a chart hit for The Circle (I believe) in the mid-60's. I had no idea that Paul Simon helped write that one. I'm wondering if Jorkensteinfeld was inquiring about the song that goes, in part, "like a rubber ball, I come bouncing back to you". Don't know who wrote that one, but the style of it and its era (late 50's-early 60's) seems much more compatible with my understanding of Paul Simon Neil Sedaka. Jork, I'm sorry I can't recall more than a few snippets of it at this time.

A good Early Simon song, co-written by Bruce Woodley. I am in a hurry right now, so I'll assume that you have the words. the chords, as I figre it are, line by line:

G Bm C G
G Bm C D
C D G Em
Am Bm C B7

tHEN THE CHORUS:
And I Em think it's gonna be all right
Am Yeah, the worst is over now,
The D morning sun is shining like a C red rubber
G ball
