Can anyone tell me the name of the movie where the last scene,as they scroll the credits,is of a girl skating off into the distance on a frozen river?
Joni Mitchell is singing her song "River" from the "Blue" album.
I can't remember any of the plot except that the girl on ice skates is the protagonist's somewhat crazy sister.
Listening to the song on the "Hits" album brought it to mind, and now it's really bugging me.I want to see the movie again.

Micca:
Thanks for the link.Went there and thought I had found it.It showed "River" as being in the sound track for "You've Got Mail" Didn't remember the scene being in it but rented it anyway.
The lyrics were mentioned in the movie, but no song, and no skating on a frozen river.
Oh well. Will go back and dig deeper. Thanks again.

Sorry, I meant video as in a music video. In fact I seem to recall someone skating round dressed like Joni Mitchell was dressed on her Hejira album...do I have an overactive imagination ?

Was it "To Die For," starring Nicole Kidman? This is the one she did a few years ago, loosely based on the Pamela Smart murder trial in New Hampshire (schoolteacher befriends outcast high-school kids, has an affair with one of them, convinces him to kill her husband; pretty sordid little black comedy, but a good one). I'm not sure this is the movie it's from, but it rings a bell.

oh my gosh maybe that's it! I know it was soemthing random I saw on TV not too long ago that was contemporary and a good movie and maybe a kind of dark film, but I simply could not remember anything more about it...and I think this fits the bill! i think you are right...

All I really remember about the scene at the end was that it had someone skating on a frozen lake or river, under which Nicole Kidman's lifeless body lay beautifully frozen in place -- which was great symbolism, given her character. Like I said, I'm not sure, but it rang a bell; hope you're able to confirm.

"To Die For" is the one.The music, however is Donovan's "Season of the Witch". I think when I heard "River" again my mind supplied the images from the movie.Talk about an over-active imagination.
I should probably post the results to Caitrin's "Mental Images" thread.
Aldus, it would have made a great music video.
Thanks everyone.

RIVER
(Joni Mitchell)

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on

I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
I made my baby cry

He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on

I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
I wish I had a river I could skate away on

Oh, I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river I could skate away on
