I downloaded the April 97 Version of Digital Tradition today. I got it running, but had to do a little tweaking. The first time I ran the program in a Windows 95 DOS window, I got an "Out of Scan Range" message on my screen, and my computer locked up. Then I went out of Windows 95 and ran folksong.bat, and I got a white screen with some writing on it. I went into folksong.bat and edited out the command that was supposed to run the cute little gif picture, and the the program was running like it had before.

One more problem, one that I also had with the October version. Since I installed a Hewlett-Packard Office Jet fax-printer, I get a warning message every time I run Digital Tradition. the message says that two programs, Folksong and Windows, are both trying to use the printer, and I have to choose one or the other to use the printer. If I choose Windows, things go on merrily and I can run Digitrad. How can I set things so I won't get this message every time, so Windows will automatically be chosen to run the printer?

Anybody else out there running digitrad in Windows 95? All tweaking suggestions would be appreciated.

Generally, the program runs pretty darn well in Windows 95. I dragged the folksong.bat file onto my "Start button," and all I have to do is hit "start" and "F" (for folksong), and the program runs.

As one who doesn't do Windows, I can only say that what I've done with Win95 is a) press the shutdown button b) select the restart in DOS option, c) change directories to the one containing the DT and d) thype .

Works for me. Susan, too.

DOS is sort of like black & white photography; there are those who just don't like new ways and still have fun, but I sure would hate to do without the mouse clicks and pretty pictures to get things

Morse code was pretty good in its time, too-before Edison and Bell started messing around with things..

Some people run Dos because for their needs its just not worth paying the premium for Win95! Computers systems are just something to get a job done. If the database can work in Dos we can share it with more people.

It aint Morse code yet....

I have run the DT on Windows 95 two ways - open a DOS window and then i put it on my start menu. Or as Dick says, you can shutdown and open in DOS mode.

Joe will need to sort out his own system - it is peculiar to his set up.

Aw, now, Susan, that's a cop-out. There have to be some "properties" settings that will optimize the running of Digital Tradition in Windows 95. Is there a Technical Genius out there who can give us advice, without getting too technical?

Actually, it seems to run pretty well for me in a Win 95 window. the only thing that has me puzzled is the window that pops up and tells me I have to choose between Windows and Digital Traditon as the device using the printer.

I just downloaded and set up the Apr '97 DT (my first version ever). It's in my WIN 95 start menu and works just fine. I printed to my HP LaserJet IIIp no sweat and even listened to tunes I've wanted to hear for a long time.

What a gold mine! To Dick, Susan, Mr. Mudcat and the rest of the good folks at DT, please accept 6,500 thank yous.
