I'm looking for lyrics to a song titled "A Bridle Hanging On The Wall." Sung by Wilf Carter and then recorded by Carson Robison and his pioneers in 1978 at Glendale Records - the album is called "Immortal Carson Robison". I don't know if it is considered Country Western or Folk Music.

Thanks for any help you can give, Angel

THERE'S A BRIDLE HANGING ON THE WALL Carson Robison

There's a bridle hangin' on the wall,
And a saddle in an empty stall.
You ask me why the teardrops fall;
It's that bridle hangin' on the wall.

There's a horseshoe nailed above the door.
It's a shoe that my old pony wore,
A faded blanket in the hall,
And that bridle hangin' on the wall.

With that pony for my guide, I used to ride down the trail,
Watchin' the moon swing low,
But now that faithful friend has found the end of that trail.
He's gone wherever good ponies go.

And his bridle's hangin' on the wall.
And his saddle's in his empty stall.
No more he'll answer to my call.
There's a bridle hangin' on the wall.

An old songbook tells me that Carson J Robison wrote the words and music in 1936.

'Bridle Hanging On The Wall' sung by Carson Robison is at The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites (Real Country Archives Page 2). Sounds like "Careless Love."

Some may be interested in Ray Kernaghan's version. It is on his Silver Jubilee Album, 17 tracks of US and AUS Country Music.

I remember the German version (this is for Joe Offer):
"Es haengt ein Pferdehalfter an der Wand".
Can't give you the second line because for as long as I can remember I followed it (silently) with
"Und mein Pony haengt gleich nebenan."
I've never been partial to tearjerkers!

I listened to the recording at the Record Lady's site, and Frank Maher's transcription, posted above, is perfect as far as it goes, but Frank omitted the spoken part that comes after the last verse:

Well, I know you folks think I'm crazy, but I don't care what you say.
If you'd ever had a pal like him, you'd know why I'm grievin' this way.
Well, we rambled the prairie together for over seventeen years.
A man never had a more faithful friend. Oh, I'm--I'm not ashamed of my tears.
A faithful friend? Say, listen: He woke me up one night
When he heard a noise on the prairie. He knew what it was all right:
A stampede headin' right towards us, and he saw what he had to do.
But he run till he dropped, and he saved my life. I call that a friend. Don't you?

[Then the last verse is sung again.]

Thanks to Angel for her Lyr Req: A Bridle Hanging on the Wall.
In 1938, when I was 4, I sang this song to my grandfather who cried
remembering Sam and Prince, his team of horses that he had to put down.
I remembered most of the words, but now I have them all.
Again, thanks.

Angel must be Canadian because of the way the date was written

If ol' Wilf had gotten a penny for every tear shed over that song, he would have died a wealthy man indeed.

A later generation-
Melinda Schneider sings it on one of her cd's.

A country classic. Sung by Ted Egan in Australia.

It was a song that an old lady who used to look after my dog used to sing -I'd never heard it before, and hadn't looked it up. She was a farmers daughter and hadn't ridden a pony since she was a girl. she is no longer with us so has also gone where the good doggie minders go.

A memory of the times when English songs were still translated into German:

Es hängt ein Pferdehalfter an der Wand (Pop-up warning)

In South Africa one of the official languages, "Afrikaans" (from the Dutch) is the most spoken. When I was a kid, my father - a farmer and great horseman - often sang this song to me. He actually lost his faithful "President" and the bridle and saddle were still hanging in the stable for many years afterwards. In recent years a local Afrikaans singer, Dozi, rerecorded this song that was originally translated and sung by Chris Blignault way back then. Memories of the heart!

Daars 'n saal wat hang daar aan die muur
(Theres a saddle hanging on the wall)
Dis die saal van my getroue ou dier
(Its the saddle of my faithful old animal)
Jy vra my waarom is my hart so seer
(You ask me why my heart is aching)
Dis die saal wat hang daar aan die muur
Its the saddle hanging on the wall)

Why they preferred to use "saal" (saddle)in stead of "toom" (bridle) is unknown. Is there someone who still remembers the Afrikaans version?

Interesting to see songs like these in other languages.
Were there more verses?

there is also the version in (what i suppose to be) German...

and another song "I Love Men" if you search other songs by Rosita Serrano, some have prominent Nazi symbols...was she a Nazi or a Nazi
sympathizer? or captured and forced to sing ?

That one goes back a long way, my mother used to sing snatches of a Dutch version that was quite popular from the late forties and during the fifties.
