(spoken) Oh lordy, I left dear old 'Frisco for my home down in Dixieland, but here I am, all stranded, down by the Rio Grand. I'm lookin for a hand out now, as I go on my weary way, the stars are my only blanket, I do my travelling by day.
All around the water tanks
Yodel lay hee oh, de lay hee hay, de lay hee
(spoken) If that brakeman only new how bad I want to get back home to my mama, he'd never throwed me off that train. Now I guess I'm goin to have to take this ol guitar of mine out there and play and sing a song, to get me a little bowl of chili.
He put me off in Texas
Yodel lay hee oh, de lay hee hay, de lay hee Recorded by Gene Autry on the Velvet Tone label (ca 1929-1933) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: All around the water Tank From: Billy the Bus Date: 12 Mar 00 - 02:11 AM Hi Fiddle DD, Yep - Jimmie Rodgers, the "Yodelling Brakeman" certainly sang "All around the watertank" recorded as one of his "Blue Yodels" (1928-29), I think. I seem to recall a couple of extra verses 2nd Banana, weren't there? Alas, my record player is dead just now, so I can't check the discs. I'm off to town for a week tomorrow, and hope to pick up a new (2nd hand) tt. Will pick up this trace when I get home and post the rest, if no-one else has. Cheers _ Sam
