Subject: ADD: Farm Out West ^^

Farm Out West
key of G major

Verse 1
        G G7
Oh I had a farm out west
C G
This farm it was the best!
G A7 D7
I had a wall-eyed steer with freckles and brown hair.
G G7
I had a long-legged Shanghai rooster
C G
With a wart on his left ear
G D7 G C C
Now he's died and done gone climbed the golden stair

Refrain:
C
Oh his bill was like a toothpick
G
And his comb was like an axe
A7 D7
He has tombstone that's a sugar hogshead sta-a-ave
G G7
All the hens they've gone on strike,
C G
They haven't laid since Saturday night
G D7 G C G
Cause they're weeping on my Shanghai rooster's grave.

Verse 2
No more he'll come home late
About the hour of half-past eight
Singin' "cock-a-doodle-doo" and a "Good-bye, Kate"
No more he'll dodge those red bricks
Thrown at some old tabby cat
Nor flirt with Murphy's pullets at the gate.

Refrain:
Oh no more he'll crow again
Throw his eye at some old hen
He was a masher and his middle name was Da-a-ave
All the hens they've gone on strike,
They haven't laid since Saturday night
Cause they're weeping on my Shanghai rooster's grave.

Don't know the source. Also don't know how I can give you the melody since I can't write ABC for sh!t. If you really like the words, I'll figure out the ABC. Somewhere I've kept a link to a website that explains it well.

And I just now had a sinking thought - should've checked the DT first in case they had the words with a MIDI of the tune. Ah well, just too eager to share.

CH ^^

perhaps you could rename this thread, ML, so it's more descriptive. suggestion: "I'm looking for Happy Songs", and then you might get more responses.

personally, i gravitate to songs in minor modes with broken hearts.

notable exceptions which spring to mind: "Another Train" by Pete Morton "The River, Mother Nature and Me" by Jenny Lester those are 2 great songs that are not about murder or rejected love. not sure i'd call them happy, though...not in the sense of 'perky-happy', anyway.

when i'm teaching children, which is my profession...then i do sing happy stuff, like "Hush little baby", "The Bear went over the Mountain", "This little birdie flaps its wings"....

Depends on what you mean by happy songs. The 2 I do that see to get the most laughs are the Sick Note and Dead Dog Scrumpy. Johnny Jump Up mentioned above also sees to be a song that gets a good response.
