Just a quick message of info,

If anyone is coming to the Fylde Coast of England (the area around Blackpool Lancashire) We would like to invite them to check out the Fylde Folk Web Site, dedicated to traditional music, local events and the Falcon Folk Club.

The site also has information on the Fylde Folk Festival that is held every September in Fleetwood - the new line up of Artist for this year has now been posted to the site plus details of how to obtain cheap tickets (only till July though!)

Why not pop along and check what's going on in the Fylde and maybe pay us a visit during the coming year.

Fylde - a great festival. With real trams as well... chip butties...boats going to Ireland. And the Worst Singer in the World Contest. Magic.

A great festival - a free mini-bus which drives up and down the seafront from the camp site so you can spend an hor in one pub then move further down the road to another then do the same again later. Well that's what I tend to do, and there are some excellent venues and well it's one of my favorite festivals.

That's the true festival spirit - now Blackpool has an Ice cream parlour tram that runs to Fleetwood maybe the festival could arrange a tram that dispenses drinks and we could have a few sessions on board.

Hyp - plenty - try this link Folk Roots 2000 list which is just freshly out now.

But there's a bus from London that goes all the way to Fylde, and can drop you off 20 yards from the campsite. The American Mudcatters won't understand us talking about Southern England to Northern England as a long way...

Sadly for me, I won't be there this year I think, because there promises to be a folk day in Harlow which is going to "need" me to be there, that very weekend. Chiz. Still I should be at Whitby, Sidmouth, maybe Cambridge and maybe soem others, so I can't complain. But I'll miss riding on the trams. (I always somehow miss riding on the bus to the camp site, in the other sense...)

Fylde is sep 1-3 which is a long way off, plenty of time to prepare, so why not try and get a mudcat gathering arranged, we could also have one at one of the festivals in the south.

Most folk festivals somewhere there is a message board of sme kind. So if the first Mucatter to get there sticks up a notice with a pub and a time or something like that, it could develop from there.

The other thing is stick a thread in the Mudcat saying if you're going to any particucular festival, and asl if amyone else is. I reckon the next one I'm going to will proabbly be the National in April at Sutton Bonington:

7th to 9th April 2000 - 34th National Folk Music Festival, Sutton Bonington, nr Loughborough, Leicestershire. "Song and music sessions, lectures and discussions involving performers and acknowledged experts in the field, story-telling sessions, a ceilidh..." All happening in an agricultural college. People bookd so far include Norma Waterson, Martin Carthy, Copper Family (three generations), Hamish Henderson,John Kirkpatrick, Ray Fisher....Weekend tickets £36, £6 camping (indoor or outdoor), £45 for a room if you'd rather. Mudcat badges and T-shirts might be useful too, and it's easy enough making that kind of stuff, if the genuine articles aren't around - print out the Frying panm banjo motif, and stick on in a badge making machine somewher; print them bigger, and get them put on a T shirt. The folk process strikes again.

Myself and one or two others are planning to go to a festival in Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries, Scotland (just over the border from Carlisle) on April 14-16, so if anyone is going or would like a lift from Yorkshire area let me know. ps happy ST Paddy's day everyone.

We're off to Sidmouth again this year, If any Mudcatters are going (I don't think Sidmouth have a web notice board) and want to leave a message for a "meet-up" feel free to use the "Fylde Folk" web site message board (as well as the Mudcat one!) and I will pass on the messages to all I know going, plus post a notice on the Sidmouth 'Hard Copy' Notice board. Likewise anyone attending Fylde who would like to have a Mudcat Meet - The Fylde Festival Notice is board is available.

Don't forget Towersey at August Bank Holiday, or Hastings Jack in the Green at May Day Bank Holiday. Then there is Chippenham, at Spring Bank Holiday, Whitby Fest, in August and many others. Check out Mrs Casey's Music - I believe they have a web site - that will give you a run down of some of the best festivals going...

And if you go to Fylde, don't forget your Thermal Underwear!!

I don't know, Liz, you southerners have an odd idea of the weather north of the Wash!!!!! Anybody would think that we all wear flat caps and have snow in April!!!!!!

Just take yer oilskins and wellies to the west coast! Which direction does most of our rain come from anyway, eh? I've never got to Fylde yet as I am usually in post-Whitby mode and am usually getting ready to wave goodbye to my husband again.

ps - my husband works in Russia. At the moment he's flitting between the Caucasus and Siberia on a regular basis. He wanders around in t-shirts here in December! The New Year celebrations in Kemerovo, Siberia, were postponed this year due to the temperature plunging to minus 40c.

I went to Fylde one September; me, who wears sandals all year round, even in the depths of winter, and doesn't complain; actually wished I had a pair of boots!

But I do agree about the East Coast - SO is in Whitby this weekend, hope it's an incentive to get the heater fixed in the car......

I've spent a couple of weekends in Caistor in April - if Mouldy's other half farted, I'd catch the aroma about 6 hours later!

Not last September that's for sure ....... had to change t-shirt between each set and left a puddle on the stage when I left it (mind you I had, had a lot to drink!!) - no sweat honest......

And sat out on the prom outside Jollies 11.00pm plus sucking cider up a straw or lager - Babycham???? in t-shirt, shorts and sandals can't be beat.

What d'you bet we get snow this year?

No Alan promised it would be fine and luvly.

Apart from the name “Fylde”, the record seems to have nothing to do with the festival. That said, it appears to be signed by my old mate, the late Brian Dewhurst, or Brian “Preston” which he had to become when he joined Equity back in the 1980s.

Not sure, but I assume that the “Raikes” were an early co-operation of Brians before the “Wayfarers”.
