Subject: Sor Dor Homeless Band & Caberet Lic.s From: InOBU Date: 19 Mar 00 - 03:57 PM How is that for a lable!? Well it seems that Bagatelle is fully closed, as it did not open this weekend, (see the Sorcha Dorcha change of Venue post) The closeing of an Irish pub on St. Patricks day has to be the best example of the luck of the Irish. Now, our band is without our two dependable gigs per week. We are finding that the caberet licesses in New York are part of the death of New York folk music. Many bars would have us, but dont have a caberet licence. Now, even with out wee PA, we are more quiet than most Juke Boxes. So, the quality of life issue, is best served by enforceing the existing laws against being too noisy, however the licencing that says more than 3 musicians in a pub takes a special licence targets traditional music and unsigned bands, making it more than difficult to get a start. How bout a move to get a referendum in New York to get rid of caberet licencing as a way of promoting culutre. After all, the alternative is bars where the primary activity is getting plastered. The counter arguement is we dont want all that socially unacceptable behavior that goes on in pubs in Europe, all that music, we want New York bars to be first and formost places to get soused! Out on the streets again Larry and Sorcha Dorcha (Going door to door with Sorcha?) |

If we are playing at Bagatelle in the future, if it survives this court order, we will let all know! Larry |
