Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Two Sweethearts of Mine (Moran, Helf) From: GUEST,Megan Date: 06 Jun 05 - 12:31 AM My family has sung this song for nearly 50 years - we sing the original lyrics as noted on the 1898 sheet. How great to find others who know this as well - does anyone know where a digital recording might be? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in love with two From: widowmaker Date: 14 Apr 03 - 01:34 AM A group of young soldiers, one night in a camp, were talking of sweethearts they had, all would be glad, but for one irish lad, who looked very downhearted and sad I say wont you join us said one of the boys, surely you love someone too, he lofted his head and proudly he said, yes I'm in love with two rest as above with the exception of the chorus which when finishing goes: These are the two that are dear to me, from them I never will part, for one is my mother god bless her I love her , and the other is my seetheart. This is the version i have sung for numerous years hope this helps. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in love with two From: MMario Date: 01 Nov 00 - 02:34 PM The sheet music at Levy was published in 1898 - I suspect it was re-issued during one of the world wars, especially given the vaiant on the lyrics. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in love with two From: Brakn Date: 01 Nov 00 - 02:12 PM I've got to refresh this one.
I got asked for this song the other night. I didn't know it so a few days later I found this thread, got the music and worked it out. The words were vaguely familiar. When I asked my mother did she know it, she said that air that's given on the music sheet is not the air that most people would know. Also the first line that most people know would be "A group of young soldiers one night at a camp". The rest of the lyrics are the same. I noticed on the sheet music that it says "Revised Edition" at the top. What is the other air? Can anyone shed any light on this? |

Subject: Lyr Add: TWO SWEETHEARTS OF MINE (Moran, Helf) From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 23 Mar 00 - 09:10 PM TWO SWEETHEARTS OF MINE Words, E.P. Moran. Music, J. Fred Helf. 1898 1. A crowd of young fellows one night at a club Were telling of sweethearts they had, All of them jolly excepting one youth And he seemed downhearted and sad. "Come, Ned, won't you join us?" his comrades then asked, "For surely some girl has loved you." Then raising his head as proudly he said, "Why, boys, I'm in love with two. CHORUS: "One has hair of silv'ry gray. The other just like gold. One is gay and youthful While the other's bent and old; But dearer than life are both to me And from neither would I part. One is my mother, God bless her! I love her. The other is my sweetheart. 2. "My sweetheart, you see, is a poor working girl, But still I'm determined to wed. My father says, 'No! It can never be so. Go marry an heiress instead.' I've won mother over. She knows how it is. When father met her she was poor. She says, "Ned, don't fret. She'll be your wife yet. Your father'll consent I am sure." |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in love with two From: Dale Rose Date: 23 Mar 00 - 08:05 PM I have had my eye (and at least a part of my brain) on this one for a while also. I know I have a recording of it (likely late 20s) but for the life of me, I cannot remember who it is by. Jimmie Rodgers, maybe? I know there are at least a half dozen here who should know, but so far have not found it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm in love with two From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 23 Mar 00 - 07:45 PM This one seems sooooooo familiar, I'll continue to keep my eye open for it... Ya know, it just dawned on me where I think I came across it....at an antique shop that had a bunch of old sheet music...might have to venture back and check a price (I love collecting old songs..)
