Subject: Braggin' On Barky From: Amos Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:46 AM Congratulations are in order for Young Barky, who last night secured the prestigious First Trumpet chair in San Diego's city-wide Honor Band, in the elite Woodwind Ensemble group. You may be able to catch a piece of her trumpet improv backing up "The Rose" on the Radio tonight, Max willing. She's damn good, and she's rightfully pleased with herself for landing first chair. Well done, mi amorcita! We're soooo proud of ya! |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Bert Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:48 AM Bloody good show ol' gal. Actually I thought you were braggin' on her 'cos she's nice, but that will do as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: MMario Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:48 AM trumpets in a woodwind ensemble? I thought trumpets were classed as "brass"? Congrats anyway, Barky! I remember how my niece walked on air the first time she got seated as first violin! and then concert mistress...(uncles gotta brag occasionally too, y'know) |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Amos Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:54 AM Trumpets are brass, MM. The group uses 'em though. Maybe Barky will clarify when she gets out of school this afternoon. She is such a fox!! Barky's Dad |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:54 AM YES! YES! YES!!! Congratulations to you Barky!!! LONG LIVE THE TRUMPET GODDESS!!! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Sorcha Date: 22 Mar 00 - 11:58 AM Good on ya, Bark! Give hell! (and Amos, dads aren't supposed to call their own daughters "foxes"!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: GUEST,TTCM Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:13 PM While we join you in saluting Barky's accomplishment, let us hope that this thread is not going to set a precedent, where Mudcatter's are encouraged to start bragging publicly about all of their children's accomplishments. Nothing is more annoying or initimidating in real life when one encounters this situation with friends who just can't shut up about their kids, and the same should hold true here. Otherwise this place will sink to an even lower LOW. |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: jeffp Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:19 PM This thread is entirely appropriate as Barky is a member (which TTCM is not!) and the accomplishment is musical. That disposed of, WAY TO GO, BARKY!!!!!!!!!!!!! jeffp |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: simon-pierre Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:20 PM (Ah ta gueule crétin!) Congratulations Barky, and nevermind the first line. |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Bert Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:20 PM TTCM, we brag on all Mudcatters' musical accomplishments. Do YOU have any? We'll brag on them too. Bert (who has a name) |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Amos Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:21 PM Well, pal, maybe you aren't being sensitive to the group dynamics involved. I understand that group dynamics may not be within your sense of realities, unless you hang out at a body-piercing bar somewhere. I thought carefully about the issue you raise, because as I rule I only brag about Barky to people I have carefully qualified as both breathing and within earshot. But for those of us who have a group here, Barky is certainly part of it, representing the arrival of the young at the door of our folk-music world, and I concluded it was within common decency to celebrate it a little. I have a niece who is in China getting her doctorate degree. Wanna see her picture? And my nephew is about to start walking, and my sister sent me a JPEG. Gimme yer email address, you effing bore, and I'll give you bragging...I think I have some old tintypes of ancestors who were very distinguished, I could scan for you... |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:29 PM Ha! I could brag about Barky ALL day! She's got more accomplishments than me, that's fo' sho! Keep it up Amos, and GO BARKSTER! --Mbo (sorry, I'm a little giddy this morning!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Willie-O Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:33 PM Amos, its OK, really. That was just a sour fart in a windstorm. Bragging on kids is good. (It embarrasses them, which is really good.) Did I mention my daughter Emily's semi-award-winning radio play was produced on community radio in boondocks of Killaloe Ontario? (No? You're kidding, I tell everybody...Emily is getting really sick of hearing about it in fact.) They even burned it onto a CD and mailed it to her. At the same time I was waiting to get my own one-off CD master of some recording done a few years ago--but hers came first. Frosted my ass, I'll tell ya. Willie-O

Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 22 Mar 00 - 12:44 PM Congratulations Barky, and Amos (the proud father)why not brag? Accomplishments, excellence and good deeds should be recognised, and be rewarded by acknowledgement. To do so encourages continuation. We tend to focus on negativity and not the positive, this is plainly wrong. TTCM you are a legend in your own mind, and do not speak for the Mudcat you speak for yourself. Do not presume to speak for anyone but yourself. Yours,Aye. Dave |

Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Áine Date: 22 Mar 00 - 03:20 PM Well, dang it! The Mudcat server seems to be losing my messages today ... I did send it before, but I'll send it again -- Way to go, Barky!! And your dad has every right in the world to be proud of your hard work and dedication. Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: catspaw49 Date: 22 Mar 00 - 06:58 PM Well you have my admiration and heartiest congrats Barko! So what brand of ax do you play? Maybe you oughta' hit-up the Ol' Man for something new in honor of this. I mean if you don't have a Benge or Schilke at the moment, this would be a good time..........And again, my best to you!!!! So Amos, did you annoint her trumpeting with the spit valve collections of Maynard Ferguson, Don Ellis, Clark Terry........or is she just that good on her own. I hope so as the other option would be pretty messy. AND to my buddy TTCM: Blow me. You're a completely anal retentive piece of shit who hates the talk of kids since no one in their right mind would mate with your miserable pissant ass. So get a fockin grip you rat bastard and if you want to screw with me or the dumb Irishman, have at it! But why not leave these other fine folks to hell alone and let them enjoy each other's happiness and and empathize with each other's woes as the friends they are? Otherwise just keep your head up your ass and start rolling your sorry dessicated carcass outta' here. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Bert Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:00 PM Now THAT'S what I meant to say Spaw. It just didn't come out like that though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:02 PM Can you bronze Barky's spit valves and auction them too? --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Barky Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:49 PM THanks for the cool song, Mbo! But, how did you know that I am playing Hayden's Trumpet Concerto? I don't think I told you.... ~Barky |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:51 PM Nope you didn't! Must be ESP....oooh scary! Man, you'd ROCK on that one! One of my favorites! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: GUEST,flattop Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:52 PM (For all you stage mothers out there - including Spaw and Amos.) Don't put your daughter on the stage, Missis Worthington; Don't put your daughter on the stage. She's a bit of an ugly duckling you must honestly confess, And the width of her seat would surely defeat Her chances of success. It's a loud voice, and tho' it's not exactly flat She'll need a little more than that To earn a living wage. On my knees, Missis Worthington; Please, Missis Worthington, Don't put your daughter on the stage. - Noel Coward |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Micca Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:54 PM Well done, Barky girl and I hope we are in for Jeremiah Clarke if you have a mic that can cope...as for friend Spaw, You said it Cuz, there seems to be a few people "the silent minority" (If only they remained so) who can't seem to cope with any kind of show of emotion or feeling between friends, well tough on them, and it is, but If you can not share the highs and lows with friends maybe it is your deficiency and loss not theirs and constantly bitching that others are departing from the "spirit" of the 'cat is spurious and trivial, as well as presumptious on their part since how do they know what catters want? Straw poll , opinion, guess work, have they conducted a survey? I reckon they are entitled to their view but that is all, and this "people say... " drivel should be treated with the contempt it deserves, and people who use these statements can only get away with them by the rest of us letting them go unchallenged, Come on Spaw if you try you CAN be that contemptuous!!!! Any way many congrats Barky and a hug from someone who ISN'T ashamed of showing feelings of happiness for a friend. |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Barky Date: 22 Mar 00 - 07:59 PM Thank you all for your kind words! It was actually rather funny last night. I was walking down the row where the trumpets were sitting, and I was looking for the folder with my name on it, and when I got to the very end of the row, I almost started crying tears of sadness, because there was my folder. This lasted about five seconds until I sat down. Then I actually examined the folder, and there, right next to my name, were the numbers 1-1, which signifies first chair, first part. I was so happy, I wish y'all could have seen the grin on my face! ~Barky |

Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Barky Date: 22 Mar 00 - 08:10 PM The really funny thing is that the guy who's second chair was principal last year, so he basically hates me. It's pretty funny.... I guess it's one of those "you have to be there" things, but he's really bitter, and even spoke harshly to the conductor. ~Barky |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 08:13 PM Too bad for him! Barky's JUST PLAIN BETTER! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Áine Date: 22 Mar 00 - 08:24 PM Barky -- Here is your new mantra - to be chanted whilst you're next in the FIRST chair . . . "Bite me, ya bugga, I'm better" If he didn't know you were better, he wouldn't be so pissed off about it. But watch your back, me darlin', and make sure you stay in the First Chair -- if for nothin' else, just to spite the bugger! -- Áine |
Subject: RE: BS: Braggin' On Barky From: Mbo Date: 22 Mar 00 - 08:28 PM You get give people REALLY good raspberries on a trumpet! --Mbo |
