I am visiting NYC from 19th to 23rd April. I would be grateful for details of any folk music events during that time period. I put in a similar request last time I visited and got a few suggestions. Please help this time!

My band, Sorcha Dorcha is playing on April 21, Friday at 8PM at the Fort, part of The Sidewalk Cafe, Avenune A on 6th street. There are other folk groups usually on the bill, we are playing for an hour, it is usually a sort of folk variety show, I understand, though I havent been there. We play traditional celtic music with a heavy emphasis on Irish music, and as I am Anglo Irish, with a lot of Yorkshire infulence on the family we do some Yorkshire music as well. I also write ballads on modern concerns in the tradition of baladry I inherited from my dad, so we have songs about the forced assimilation of Canadian Indians, the murder of Gypsies in the Czech republic, the murder by NYC police of Amadou Diallo. I think you will enjoy the band...

Karen, Sorcha Dorcha is an excellent band. Though I have not had the opportunity to hear them perform live, I have listen to their music on tape and really enjoyed their feel of authenticity.

Larry, I am very glad to hear you found a new location to perform at. When you put out your tip can, I suggest you dab a little Crazy Glue on the bottom.

And InOBU ' s band IS worth an ear ! As are Suffet and Ann - Caught them in London last yaer , and had a Jam with Lorcan at the '05 Getaway

Everyone, please look at the dates. I revived this old thread from 2000 rather than start a new one on the same topic.

Also, has anyone heard from Lorcan Otway (InOBU) lately? He has two Facebook pages. One appears to from the good old Lorcan that we know, but the other seems to me like it's from an impostor. Here's a link to the strange page. Is this for real? I would like to know.

That's our Larry. I saw him a few weeks ago at his home. We spoke about his project, The Museum of the American Gangster. The picture is not current as he has [deliberately] lost a bit of weight.
