Subject: Cookies for all From: Kara Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:06 PM My husband is slowly becoming converted to mudcats. He has asked if he can post things , but I do not want him posting on my cookie, as he opinions are not mine, so how does he get a cookie too??? |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Bert Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:12 PM He can join in his own name. If you're sharing a machine you'll have to reset your cookie when you change users. Or you can use a 'family' cookie and each sign your name to your own messages. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: MMario Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:13 PM kara - you can each set up an account. when you are done 'catting, then logout. Your husband then can login with his own cookie. it does mean you have to log in and log out, but gives you your own "name" |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Kara Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:17 PM So how do I log out and him log in? |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Bert Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:18 PM Click on 'Membership' in the menu bar above. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:19 PM Go to the Quick Links, click on the pull down menu and choose Log Out, then he can go to the same place and choose Log in and vice versa. Welcome, Kara's hubby! |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Kara Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:20 PM Thank you . |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Kara Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:27 PM that all went very well until he hit submit and then it said that our email address is already in the data base. But we share an email address; so what can we do now, does he have to have his own email address to get his own cookie. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Mar 00 - 02:48 PM Set up another e-mail account thru one of the freebies like Juno or Yahoo........or just fake it. I was personally hoping this thread was more about Caitrin's cookie recipe, but alas, all I can find is a mention of cookies and log and........hey...PECAN LOG COOKIES.........lemmee see, I got some pecans..... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: MMario Date: 30 Mar 00 - 03:00 PM each cookie does require an e-mail address.... |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: catspaw49 Date: 30 Mar 00 - 03:20 PM Is there an echo in here? Spaw |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: SDShad Date: 30 Mar 00 - 03:22 PM Kara-- What browser you usin'? I don't use IE, but I know with Netscape, you can set up separate user profiles that have their own email settings for Messenger, their own bookmark files, their own cache...and their own cookie file. So all's you'd have to do is close Netscape, reopen it, select the other profile, and come on back to the 'Cat. If you are using Netscape, go to the Netscape menu off your start button, then Utilities, then User Profile Manager to create another profile. That's for Wintel boxes anyway. I'm pretty sure you can do it on a Mac, but I don't know how. Chris |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: MMario Date: 30 Mar 00 - 03:27 PM depends on what version of netscape to. I believe that feature is only on 4.5 and above. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: SDShad Date: 30 Mar 00 - 03:38 PM Actually, M-Man, close, but I'm pretty sure 4.anything will do it, not just 4.5. I do networking support for dorm rats, and I've been setting 'em up for separate profiles for quite a while now. But we were installing the Communicator Professional package--maybe below 4.5 versions of the Personal version don't do it. Chris |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Mar 00 - 06:26 PM Well, Joe Offer told us we would each need our own e-mail address, so we went to hotamil for a free second box. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: paddymac Date: 30 Mar 00 - 06:35 PM Jeez, 'Spaw - there you go thinkin' with yer stomach agin. A man after me own heart. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Bill D Date: 30 Mar 00 - 06:52 PM my wife, Ferrara, & I have done separate email accounts, Windows profiles(custom desktops!), and Netscape profiles....she has her own bookmarks, cookies...etc...it requires only a few seconds to close Netscape and re-open hers..a bit longer to totally re-log into Windows, but it works just fine!..(we actually PAY for a 2nd email account at our ISP, but any free email account would work..) |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Cara Date: 30 Mar 00 - 08:59 PM You can usually also register an email address as cara@domain.com--it's nonexistent of course but I use it all the time to register for sites that I don't want to receive email from (not that Mudcat spams of course). |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: GUEST Date: 31 Mar 00 - 01:13 PM You don't need a cookie to post here. |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Homeless Date: 31 Mar 00 - 01:39 PM For a variation of the original question... I've got two computers that I get on Mudcat from. At work I've got a cookie and am registered as Homeless. At a friend's, I just get on as a guest. Is there a way I can register as Homeless on the second machine too? |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: jeffp Date: 31 Mar 00 - 02:20 PM You should be able to. I log on from one of my computers at work and my computer at home. both have cookies in my name. Just follow the quick link to "reset cookie" and follow the instructions. jeffp |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Bill D Date: 01 Apr 00 - 11:08 AM ...you don't need a cookie to mail anonymous threats to the FBI, either...or to write graffiti on walls...or to call talk radio stations from a pay phone and rant...or to wear a mask on Halloween and act like you'd NEVER do otherwise.

Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: GUEST,possibly Jo Taylor Date: 01 Apr 00 - 04:54 PM Testing - think I've lost mine... Jo |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Jo Taylor Date: 01 Apr 00 - 04:57 PM That's better... Jo |
Subject: RE: Cookies for all From: Alan of Australia Date: 01 Apr 00 - 06:42 PM G'day, 1. There is no problem using 2 computers with the same Mudcat identity. As jeffp said - that's exactly what I do. 2. You shouldn't have to go to any great lengths to get another email address - your ISP probably allows you to set up aliases - e.g. if your email is fred.nerk@provider.com you can create an alias fn@provider.com. Although they are really the same address, they look different to web sites (such as Mudcat). Go to your provider's home page & look for details.
Cheers, |
