Hi,

I have the words for this song but not the guitar chords.

Does anyone have a set of chords for this song ?

Does anyone know a good folk song URL for getting guitar chords as well as lyrics.

Cheers,

Have only just come across this website while trying to find any existing guitar chord arrangements for Tatties & Herrin' (saves having to try & work them out myself !). The version of the song that I know is the one recorded some years ago by Robin Hall & Jimmie MacGregor, on their 'One Over the Eight' album. I've had a stab at working out chords for the Robin & Jimmie version & this is what I've come up with:-

       G          Em       G       Em
1. The auld fisher folk made anything shame,
    G       Em             C             G
On a Saturday night when they drink all the ale.
                  Em                C         Bm
Then Sunday comes roond and there's no muckle carin',
       G          Bm               F          G
For the rest o' the week they'll get tatties and herring.

Chorus:    Bm   G               Em
Tatties and herrin', tatties and herrin'
    Bm                      F          G
The lads are wee'll fed upon tatties and herrin'.

2. When the King wanted men to conquer his foe,
T'was neither to Lowestoft or Yarmouth he'd go.
He cam' tae the north for the whaling and derring,
The lads that are fed upon tatties and herrin'.

Chorus

3. The bold Russian army they said tae their Tsar,
The lads frae the northeast we'll no face in war.
Ye can cry us all feardies but man we're no carin',
Yon lads have been fed upon tatties and herrin'.

Chorus

4. Wi' a poond in the week you'll aye be content,
Ten shillings tae lay by for claes and the rent.
Half a croon tae lay by for when you're no ferrin',
And seeven and six is for tatties and herrin'.

Chorus.

I see that the guitar chords haven't lined up correctly with the lyrics in my earlier submission, so will resend the 1st verse & chorus with each chord entered 'in line' at the appropriate point:
Played in G major. Robin & Jimmie sing it in a fairly lively 3/4 time (I think !).

The (G)auld fisher (Em)folk made (G)anything (Em)shame,
On a (G)Saturday (Em)night when they (C)drink all the (G)ale.
Then Sunday comes (Em)roond and there's (C)no muckle (Bm)carin',
For the (G)rest o' the (Bm)week they'll get (F)tatties and (G)herrin'.

(G)Tatties and (Bm)her - (G)rin'. tatties and (Em)herrin'
The (Bm)lads are weel fed upon (F)tatties and (G)herrin'.
