Our anonymous guest and any newbies may need the information that those stange lines following "X:1" are ABC symbols. To transform them to sheet music with chord names, you can copy them to the clipboard and paste that into Folkinfo.

Those of you who are only interested in the chords can find them in quotes, e.g. "Am" for a minor. | symbolizes a bar line.

the chords are a minor and e minor, cruising round yarmouth is a completely different song, however yarmouth town is a variation on the same story , but with a different tune

The tune given above ("Roud 511; Laws K40; Ballad Index LK40; trad.", not identical to the one to which 'Cruising Round Yarmouth' is normally sung) sounds traditional enough to alert our Shanty Police when it comes to chords.

Certainly we cannot speak of the chords. I did not hear any recording; here is my own suggestion, to be used at own risk:

To fit the basically merry lyrics, I took the liberty to use as many major chords as possible, including some (anachronistic) sevenths. Have fun, or ask someone else. To arrange the song for stage performances or commercial recordings, more effort is required.

gypsy - they create the files "on the fly" so sometimes you have to refresh a few times....I got it first time this time (just checked to make sure I did the link correctly)

Hmmm, I've heard this a bit differently, Dave. Same words basically, except that the "Do me amma ding me amma do me amma day" being referred to in a posessive manner;

It's down comes the lady to let old Jack in with his do me amma etc.

Behold his hopes are all dashed to the ground like his do me amma etc.

For I never will part from my Jolly Jack tar and his do me amma etc.

Sorry I couldn't begin to extract the chords. Maybe if I find a midi I can convert it to notation.... I'll give it a try. Margo

This song was redone under the title of Yarmouth Town. I am looking for the older version, and yes, i really want to find the notation as well. Just do better with the written note than playing by ear! So, if anyone can point me in the right direction......
