Subject: Help:Recording trad. songs From: The Lighthouse Date: 03 Apr 00 - 10:13 PM When recording traditional songs or tunes, what is the proper credit billing that should be given. I.E. recording a version of someone elses trad. song with the same lyrics and melody, is credit given to them or you and how much needs to be changed to gain credit for a trad. arrangement? Also the same question for trad. instrumentals. |
Subject: RE: Help:Recording trad. songs From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 03 Apr 00 - 10:47 PM Always credit your source, and provide as much background information as you can. If your arrangement is significantly different, then it's yours; if it's just copied, or only very slightly changed, then it's not. (That comment doesn't necessarily reflect the legal position, though, which is very complex.) Good luck! Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Help:Recording trad. songs From: MMario Date: 04 Apr 00 - 08:09 AM it gets very complicated. If the "someone else" has listed the tune as traditional, rather then "arrangement by...." then you could just credit it as traditional. If it is "arranged by" and you are duplicating it, then credit (AND royalties) should go to the arranger. |
Subject: RE: Help:Recording trad. songs From: Áine Date: 04 Apr 00 - 04:21 PM Dear Lighthouse, I'd be interested in knowing what song(s) you're speaking of. Are you changing the tune and/or harmony part(s) at all? Are you using different instruments and/or playing different melody/harmony lines with them? Have you changed the rhythm or the emphasis of the beat at all? -- Áine |
