Subject: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: Grey Wolf Date: 05 Apr 00 - 05:30 PM As someone who hugely appreciated the full text search that was, all too briefly, available for the mudcat, I'd like to see it back. We are told that it's not available until the hardware is upgraded, and that we should help however we can. My point is that people would be far more willing to help, offer things to the auction etc, if we knew how much we were trying to raise, and what it was for. Max, if you give us a target, I think we'll suprise you Grey Wolf |

Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: Mark Cohen Date: 06 Apr 00 - 01:24 AM Boy I'm glad I checked this thread before I made a loud fool of myself asking when the Super Search was coming back. I bought a T-shirt last month and made a donation now. (The T-shirt didn't come in time for Singtime Frolics in Oregon but the 'Catters found each other anyway -- at least Barbara and Margo and Thomas the Rhymer and I did.) I love this site. And I have to admit, if Super Search comes back on I'll never get any work done at all! Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 06 Apr 00 - 01:50 AM How about if all the Mudcatters who have recordings, CDs, cassettes, or vinyl, donate a dozen or so each to the mudcat where thet could then be sold -not auctioned- at fair retail price, eg, $13 per CD, $10 per cassette, to other interested members with the proceeds going to Max. I'll start off with a couple of sets (I have 9 recordings) to get the ball rolling. And you can check out the song contents of my stuff at www.songs.com/seamus. Sorry I don't know how to do the blue clicky thing. All the best. Seamus |
Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Apr 00 - 07:20 PM Did Max use the $2000 collected in the previous drive for any upgrades? Just wondering. |
Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: MMario Date: 06 Apr 00 - 08:11 PM guys, he also said he wouldn't be able to do anything until after his taxes were done. which was just recently. And remember, MudCat comes AFTER business. Plus there will be a bit of work to ensure a seamless transition, unless you WANT the 'Cat to be down for a while? |
Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 06 Apr 00 - 08:26 PM So maybe it's time more than money? |
Subject: RE: Max, how much money does mudcat need? From: MMario Date: 06 Apr 00 - 08:36 PM At this point, I suspect so. I don't know what Max's physical network and logical network look like, but it is becoming more and more complicated to do upgrades. When you add in software upgrades to the hardware upgrades, and you are doing it on a volunteer basis above and beyond your "nine to five" it's going to take a while. And as we all know, Max likes to get things RIGHT. He's fiddled with the MudCat radio constantly, trying to get the best performance, and is working on a chat room. Plus routine maintainence on the 'cat. It all takes time, pholks. Believe me, I know. |
