No need to shout, Irish Rover! We can hear you all right. Unfortunately, I don't know a song of that title, but I do know Leave Us Our Glens which is a humorous song in praise of - surprise, surprise - whisky. Could that be what you mean? If so, I'll try to find the words (I think they've been posted to the forum, possibly by me). If not, sorry, but someone else may be able to help. - Susanne

Sounds like a song called,"But Leave Me My Glens" by comedy trio "Scotand The What?". The "Glens" in the song are of course all brands of malt whisky. Where you would find the words to this song, other than from one of their recordings, is something I would'nt know. cheers.

Subject: Lyr Add: OUR GLENS (from The McCalmans)
From: Herma

I do have the words to the song "Our Glens" sung by The McCalmans (heard it sung by them only last Friday):

I love Scotland's glens, and whatever else we lose,
Please leave us our glens, our glorious glens,
Our mountains are grand, Ben Lomond, Ben Nevis too,
You can have all these bens, but leave us our glens

Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glendronach, Glen Grant,
Can you do without them, if you must know I can't
With a drop of Glen Spey or Glendrottar,
It's a perfectly bearable way to drink water.

I'd willingly lose, our culture or most of it,
Including that mess called "Full Highland Dress",
With the full ethnic bit, with Haggis and Hogmanay,
I'd gladly dispense, but leave us our glens.

Glenfarclas, Glenlochy, Glengarioch, Glenfaul,
I once knew a man who had sampled them all,
Glenaugie, Glenkinchie, Glenisla, that's plenty,
He looked sixty-five, but in fact he was twenty.

Take our Highland schottische, our marches, strathspeys and reels,
Take our old Scottish waltz, but leave us our malts,
Remove if you will, our ladies' conveniences,
And our gentlemen's, but leave us our glens.

Glenturret, Glen Scotia and last week Glen Fyne
Was rare at Communion when they ran out of wine
Glenglassough, Glenlossie, Glendullan, Glenmorangie
I prefer them to Cointreau, which I find too orangie.

Oh breathes there a Scot, whose views on priorities,
When laid on the line, are different from mine,
Take our jobs take our homes; take anything else you will,
Wife family and friends, but leave us our glens

Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glendronach, Glen Grant,
Can you do without them, if you must know I can't
With a drop of Glen Spey or Glendrottar,
It's a perfectly bearable way to drink water.

So was this what you were looking for? Great song! (Thanks, Herma, for doing the job for me!) I found several volumes of sketches from 'Scotland the What?' in Scottish bookshops last year, and one of them had this song. According to them, it was written by George Donald and Buff Hardie. - Susanne

Okay! It looks like a marvelous song, perfect for the next Scotch tasting night. Any chance of a tune?

Not from me, I'm notoriously bad at turning tunes into digital signals. But try ordering the McCalmans' latest, called 'Keepers', from the Greentrax label (CDTRAX 174) and enjoy! - Susanne
